I realise that I am coming late to this discussion - but, why do you 
low-rate the Ford and Dodge trux?

I can understand slamming the Chevys. They are rust buckets and on the 
S-10 the ergonomics suck big time. The late model S-10s are so styled 
the it is impossible to open the window(s) if there is any moisture 
about lest your leg get soaked worse than had your dog hiked his leg at 
you. Even with Vent Visors.

I drive both Ranger and S-10 examples at work. The Rangers are well laid 
out, get better mileage than the S-10s - even the 3 litre V6 Ranger 
against the 4 cylinder GM, don't seem to rust, the cabs are tight, the 
mirrors are better and I can slide a pallet between the wheel wells in 
the bed - something that misses being possible by an inch or so in the 
Chevy.

I don't have much against the Dodges - except they are UGLY. MY kid 
brother, Phil, has a 6 year old extended cab RAM 1500 which is a pretty 
nice ride for a full-size truck. The ergo is better than the Silverado 
he used to have. The cab corners on the Chevy rusted out in three years - 
which is why he bought the Dodge. That and the fact that he got a great 
deal on it and the Dodge Urban Attack Vehicle for Ms. Vickie as a 
package. As opposed to what he would have laid out for an F-150 and an 
Exploder. Or a Tundra and Highlander, etc.

If you get a chance to try out a Ranger with the newish 2.5L four banger 
in it - give it a shot. It may change your mind. My main objection to 
the current crop of "mini" pickups is that they have been feeding them 
steroids. All of them, including the Toyota and Nissan are as big as the 
full sized half-ton pickups of the 1960s. Not to mention that the Nissan 
trucks are even uglier than the Dodges.

All that being said - I like my little (1993) Toyota. Enough that I am 
giving it a heart transplant (and a transmixer, too). But, I'd prefer a 
Mazda B-2600 extended cab if I could find one in reasonable shape that 
the owner was willing to part with at a fair price. And good luck on 
that!

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.06
 
      Title: Curried Pumpkin Soup - GF
 Categories: Squash, Curries, Soups
      Yield: 6 Servings
 
      1 lg Onion; chopped or sliced
      2 tb Butter
     16 oz Can pumpkin         -=OR=-
      2 c  Cooked pumpkin; pureed
      3 c  Chicken stock
      1 lg Potato; peeled, cubed
      1 ts Curry powder
    1/8 ts Nutmeg; fresh ground
      1 c  Half & half
           Worster sauce or hot sauce
           Salt & pepper
 
  Saute onion in butter in a 2 quart saucepan until tender.
  Add pumpkin, chicken stock, potato, curry powder and
  nutmeg; mix well. Cook over low heat until potato is done.
  
  Process in batches in blender. Combine with half & half,
  Worcestershire sauce, s & p. Simmer until heated through.
  
  Ladle into soup bowls.
