======================
-> RH> We always went down Fridays after Dad got home from work.
->
-> My dad's boss would let him take off a bit early (timed for when school
-> got out) which would put us at my grandmother's by about 7pm.
->
My dad's bosses weren't that nice.

-> RH> Me, I got my entire dorm room into the back of a Grand Marquis.
-> RH> Admittedly, those things were boats, but that included a TV and a
->  RH> fridge.
->
-> I didn't have the tv or fridge but had boxes of books, bedding and other
-> stuff. I always had a mug & spoon, Tang, cocoa mix, tea, etc included.
-> I think that mug (a NY Mets one) is still at my parent's house.

I forget what I used to keep around, but I always had more books than I had
space for - still do of course!

-> RH> Cincinatti chilli, here we come!
->
-> We didn't know it by that name; we called it "chilighetti" or
-> "spaghatilli" or some other nonsense name. We also called it good food.
-> (G)

I've made similar concoctions without realizing they had names too.

-> -> RH> the flat roof on the building decided it had had enough.... The
-> ->  RH> dropped ceiling , well..., dropped. (G)
-> -> No fun; hope the store had good insurance.
-> RH> I never asked. Only about half a dozen tiles actually came down,
but
-> RH> it was still enough to make a big mess.
->
-> I suspect so.

We had big garbage cans under all the holes, buckets where we didn't have
cans, and plastic sheeting over all of the chocolate.

-> RH> It'll probably stop when they close the lid and nail the sucker
->  RH> down....
->
-> I know what you mean; I can't sit for very long with a pen and paper at
-> a meeting or something without using them for other than note taking
-> purposes. (G) If it's paperwork I have to fill out, I don't draw on it
-> but other stuff is fair game.

When I'm working the coffeehouse, the change envelopes for the merchandise
table get decorated. The acts bring the merchandise and I play shopkeeper,
which means sitting there all evening ... and idle hands plus paper plus
pens....

-> -> No, we've not been to the CVS store yet.
->
-> RH> Rite Aid and Walgreens have rebate programs too, if you have those.
-> RH> I've given up on the Walgreens ones due to their error rate.
->
-> We have them too but don't usually go. Stopped at one on Halloween for
-> something quick because we were out and the PX was closed. It was
-> actually rather quiet in the store and the few employees we saw, were
-> not costumed.
->
Most chain stores don't do the costume thing. Weird but true.

-> RH> I usually make them out of heavy muslin remnants and then use
washable
-> RH> whatever to make a cover. I had to make several rice bags at one
-> RH> point, and it just made sense.
->
-> That's what I did last time I made one but made the cover from an old
-> bath towel. Used velcro on both sides of the top so the inner bag
-> wouldn't collapse to the bottom.

I've never velcro-ed them, just made the bag long enough to flap over.

-> RH> ...and it beats the snot out of an electric wheelchair.
->
-> I know; I don't want to get to that point. As is, now I can get around
-> the kitchen with everything the right height. With a wheelchair, that
-> would be hard to do in these quarters--we'd have to buy a house and
-> retro-fit it.

That sounds like a major pain. A place that's built handicap-accessible
from the get-go is one thing. Tearing a house apart is a whole different
ballgame.

-> RH> for all of 99 cents, but I couldn't list the thing for sale until I
-> RH> had a big honkin' box to ship him in. The gator isn't that
high/wide,
->  RH> but he's 29 inches LONG.
->
->
-> Should have checked a florist. Is it a Florida gater?
->
It's a German gator.:-) Steiff and all that.

-> -> RH> Sounds like my kind of kitty!
-> -> She seems pretty laid back.
->
-> RH> Hello, here I am, feed me?
->
-> Just a bit of attention from us; somebody else feeds her.
->
OTOH, she'd probably take a hand-out!

-> RH> The treadle machine is a no-brainer. How else can you sew when the
->  RH> power's out?
->
-> He hasn't bought into that one yet. Right now his biggest is "are you
-> sure you can use one with your foot the way it is?" --and I cna't give
-> him a definative answer; best I can do is "I don't know until I try" and
-> he's not willing to yield enough to let me try. I have to find one tho,
-> to try it.

Doesn't he know that's what he's for? My dad was my grandmother's sewing
machine motor.
