======================
Hi Ruth,

-> Friday was usually the "deadest" day at the newspaper office anyway.
-> The paper hit the street on Thursday morning so all day Wednesday and

 RH> Mine was an engineer, and if they were working on something there was
 RH> no such thing as a slow day.

No, some jobs don't have a slow day built into them. Small town weekly
newspaper in the mid to late 20th century (50s-80s) did tho. Dad left
the paper in 81 or 82 and went self employed for a while, then retired.

-> Sounds familiar. I want to start shelving books but we've not found the
-> pins for some shelves yet. We're also going to do a sorting as we
-> shelve; some books may find new homes.

 RH> That always happens; I'm just now finding books I stuffed in the attic
 RH> in the early 90s. Oops.

What sort of books? Some never lose value in one way or another; others
aren't even worth the paper they're printed on.

-> More fun to come up with a name that fits it better.

 RH> Easier to explain if you use the traditional name.:)

True, but my Whatever the Night of the Week It Is Surprise doesn't give
you any idea of what's in it. That one came about when I was making it
once and Steve asked what supper was. I told him basically what was in
it but it didn't have a name. He then dubbed it "Monday Night (since
that was the day I was making it) Surprise". It's gone by that name
ever since. Basically, a pound (give or take) of ground beef or turkey,
browned with onion, green pepper, etc. Add frozen vegetables or
whatever is on hand and needs using up and a can or two of tomato sauce
(or one can, plus water) and seasonings of choice, simmer 10 minutes
(give or take) and serve. Pasta or rice cooked on the side (cooks
better than in with everything else) can be mixed in or used as a base &
cheese can be grated over the top. Everything varies, depending on
what's on hand but it starts with a base of ground meat and vegetables
are added. Starch is always there also.

-> RH> When I'm working the coffeehouse, the change envelopes for the
-> RH> merchandise table get decorated. The acts bring the merchandise

-> So do they appreciate your artwork? Designed any album covers (that
-> actually have been used)?

 RH> Nope, but you never know.

Won't you be surprised some day! (G) That is, if they remember where
they were playing when the envelop was decorated.

-> country that have all sorts of characters working them on Halloween.
-> Other characters work them the rest of the year. (G)

 RH> Places like Hot Topic and Spencer Gifts? The dress code for SPencer
 RH> is " wear clothes".

Spencer is on my list of "Stay aways"; nevr heard of the other, which is
probably just as well.

-> Besides, I use velcro in lots of other sewing jobs so why not
-> incorporate it into these?

 RH> I've always hated the stuff, so I guess the thought doesn't occur.

I use it for the diaper bag I make as my traditional baby shower gift,
among other things. I don't like the stickey back stuff tho, since I
sew thru it and it can gum up the needle faster'n blink of the eye.

-> Yes, and we understand there are a few single story quarters available
-> in the officer area. One soldier moved his family into one of them even
-> tho he didn't need the single story plan--he just got tired of waiting
-> for quarters and told housing that he would take the single story unit
-> just so he could get settled. It does throw those in needa curve ball

 RH> On the other hand, if you need a place to live you take what you can
 RH> get.

That was his rational. OTOH, it does make it harder for families
needing a single story place. We would have taken one, had it been
offered.

-> RH> It's a German gator.:-) Steiff and all that.
 RH> ->
-> Area joke--we're so close to Florida we hear almost as much about the
-> gaters as we do the bulldogs or some of the other area college teams.

 RH> Connecticut is UConn Husky territory for some sports, but wide open
 RH> for most of it. We have a decent football team, but they don't have a
 RH> Gator-type following or people getting the mascot tattooed someplace

It's really bad here but at least there are pro teams in the stat also.
HI has no pro teams so UH is considered THE team for 99.99% of sports
fans over there, BYU-H and HPU are distant seconds and even smaller
schools well off the radar.

->  RH> OTOH, she'd probably take a hand-out!

-> Provided we had one. My new pulminologist is of the same camp the one I
-> had in HI was--no pets for me. We had to turn down the offer of a
-> Bichon Friese (one lady in the church breeds them, had a slightly older

 RH> Bichons aren't supposed to set off allergies as much. I wonder if
 RH> he'd let you keep geckos!

Dander is what keeps any furred or feathered animal off my accptable
list. Never asked about geckos but I don't want one either. The ones
in HI were acceptable because I didn't have to maintain them, OTOH,
Deborah had one for a pet for a while that was high maintainence.

->  RH> Doesn't he know that's what he's for?  My dad was my grandmother's
 RH> ->
-> If that were the case, I'd never get any sewing done, especially this
-> past week end. A 20K march with 15+ pounds in the ruck on Friday
-> morning did Steve in the rest of the week end.

 RH> That would do it. How to keep one's husband out of one's sewing room
 RH> - a 20K march will do nicely!

He chilled out--did his annual watch of the LOTR set while soaking his
feet. It's a cloudy but cold (40s) day today & he's out at the range
for his annual arms qualifications. Beats yesterday--a bit colder and
rained.

Catch you later,
