======================
Hi Ruth,

-> newspaper in the mid to late 20th century (50s-80s) did tho. Dad left
-> the paper in 81 or 82 and went self employed for a while, then retired.

 RH> My father was retired by force - they closed his entire department.

My dad left before the boss fired him--Dad knew what he was doing was
right, boss didn't know how to run a newspaper. Boss had inherited the
job from his dad who got it from his dad (who did know, and had hired
Dad).

 RH> attic
->  RH> in the early 90s.  Oops.

-> What sort of books? Some never lose value in one way or another; others
-> aren't even worth the paper they're printed on.

 RH> In this case, Star Trek novels. I used to read them all as they came
 RH> out.

IOW, mostly ones that are read once and not worth keeping. Beats
"romance" novels that aren't even worth reading once.

-> it but it didn't have a name. He then dubbed it "Monday Night (since
-> that was the day I was making it) Surprise". It's gone by that name
-> ever since. Basically, a pound (give or take) of ground beef or turkey,
-> browned with onion, green pepper, etc. Add frozen vegetables or

 RH> That sounds like last night's dinner. About a pound of browned ground
 RH> buffalo (it was in the freezer, bought cheaper than the same grade of
 RH> ground beef) plus veggies, plus an open jar of spaghetti sauce. Add
 RH> spaghetti and it's dinner.

That's pretty much it. I don't usually buy spaghetti sauce but do keep
tomato sauce & paste on hand, as well as canned tomatoes.

-> Spencer is on my list of "Stay aways"; nevr heard of the other, which is
-> probably just as well.

 RH> It's aimed at teenagers and tweens, mostly teens.

I figured; I'm long ago out of that stage, as are my girls.

-> -> Besides, I use velcro in lots of other sewing jobs so why not
-> RH> I've always hated the stuff, so I guess the thought doesn't occur.
 RH> ->
-> I use it for the diaper bag I make as my traditional baby shower gift,
-> among other things. I don't like the stickey back stuff tho, since I
-> sew thru it and it can gum up the needle faster'n blink of the eye.

 RH> I only use the sticky back stuff if I'm putting together a wall
 RH> display or something, when I'll need to hang things on posterboard or
 RH> foamboard and move them around. Otherwise it's for the birds. The
 RH> sticky doesn't stick to much of anything.

I'd bought some heavy duty sticky back--was able to use a bit to repair
the one cam walker I was in this spring. (G)

-> RH> On the other hand, if you need a place to live you take what you

-> That was his rational. OTOH, it does make it harder for families
-> needing a single story place. We would have taken one, had it been

 RH> Is there any way to trade?

Unfortunately, not. He's an officer; we're enlisted. Tho we only live
a few minute's walk apart, we live in the senior enlisted housing area
and he's in officer quarters. The private contractor that built the
housing probably should have been told to build a certain number of
single level houses in each area but wasn't so...........

-> It's really bad here but at least there are pro teams in the state
also.

 RH> We used to have a pro hockey team, but they bailed. Baseball fans
RH> here are split about 50/50 between the Yankees and the Sox.

Not quite 50/50; remember there's probably a few Mets fans. (G)

-> HI has no pro teams so UH is considered THE team for 99.99% of sports
-> fans over there, BYU-H and HPU are distant seconds and even smaller
-> schools well off the radar.

 RH> That figures. The only time Hawaii gets to see the pros is the
 RH> football Pro Bowl.

That's about it. They had an arena football league team for 2-3 years
while we were there but that went belly up.

-> feet. It's a cloudy but cold (40s) day today & he's out at the range
-> for his annual arms qualifications. Beats yesterday--a bit colder and
-> rained.

 RH> Yuck. It's in the high 30s here, and it was pouring down rain this

We're having a time getting used to colder weather again. (G) Straight
cold tho isn't as bad as cold and wet; that's pure nasty. I've got to
start sewing up some more jackets and suchlike thho.

 RH> morning. No one's ever been dumb enough to give me a hand gun or a
 RH> real rifle.

Military requirements. He has to shoot once a year, minimum. You would
probably know which is the business end and respect it; some soldiers
have a time figuring that out. (G)
