I wish!  Not always though.  CVN's (Aircraft carriers) have galleys that are
open almost 24/7 (off hours have simpler items but always 'something').  Ships
of my size are the largest ones that dont do that.  Anything bigger than us,
does.

The XO has mentioned briefly that he'd like to shift such a bit, or so I am
told by scuttlebutt (rumor=scuttlebutt).  It's a logistical issue with our
ship design, abetted with the type of funding we get for food.  Bigger ships
have more than 3 galleys (we have Officer, CPO, and Main).  CVN's have 2
Officer galleys, 1 CPO, and 3 'main'.  Both of us also have a 'flag galley'
(for the 1-3 star and his top officers but it's too small to be used for more
than them).

I like my current XO I might add.  Good fellow.  Very approachable.  The CO
seems a decent sort too but I have no direct interaction with him.  My job
with training puts me in contact with the XO very regular (almost every day it
seems).  I'm sure the CO is equally 'cool' but training and schools are an XO
item he handles for the CO as a delegation thing.  (basically I brief the XO
and he takes the info to the CO as needed).

I get kinda scared sometimes of the job I have.  It's 1.6M annually on average
and if i dont give the right advice, I have no one to blame but me when we run
short of money.  I also have no one as good as me at this, on the ship though
my new 'Training Officer' checks in this week.  She's a good soul it seems and
pretty saavy on the issues.  (the one I work for transfers in 3 weeks and is
away on house hunting leave just now.  He's good with the stuff i am not good
at so it's been a decent match).

Anyways, back to cooking <g>.

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.05
 
      Title: Xxcarol's oysters in 5 mins
 Categories: Xxcarol, Japan
      Yield: 4 Servings
 
    1/2 lb Oyster meats
    1/8 c  Datu Puti brand soy sauce
      1 tb Suukim maasim spiced vinigar
      3 tb Olive oil
 
  Wanna fast treat suitable for the gods?  This is it.  Heat the olive
  oil and dump in the mussel meats.  While heating, mix the soy and
  vinigar being sure to shake the vinigar up so you get some of the
  sediment in there.
  
  Cook til the mussels are hot all though but before any visible cooking
  signs (browning) are seen and place on place with the sauce at the
  side. Set a set of chopsticks per diner and enjoy!
  
  This from a recipe from a lady at Tonoo market, local favorite food
  though she uses sesame oil and said as an optional addition, she'd
  add a little miso (pinky nail sized bit of paste).
