=====================
Hi Carol,

RH> foot print so it'll look pretty anyway. I miss having a decent sized
RH> kitchen; I think the one we had in Berlin was the biggest but it had n
RH> dishwasher.

CS> The one here is big. The design is wrong to add a kitchen table in
CS> there but I bet before the washing/dryer were there, that would have
 CS> worked.

I suspect you would rather have the washer & dryer. (G) When we were in
Germany, the stairwells had common laundry areas in the basement. That
too was before the full HHG weight allowance was given to enlisted for
overseas duty. It was a "given" that the washer & dryer would go into
storage or otherwise. We put a 2 year old washer into storage for 6
years; it came out with no problems and worked for another 11 years
before giving up the ghost (blew the tub seal) in HI.

CS> I like the half height shelves for some of them as it allows me to
CS> store the 'taller' items well. My garage back home could use more

RH> I could see it on some of the cabinets but I don't want all of them th

CS> Same here probably. The design of the current place had few lower
CS> cabinets but many upper ones and the lower part had lots of drawers.
CS> Works out well enough for me.

We have 3 large drawers in the kitchen and 5 half size. I had fun
trying to figure out what to stow where but did--now the fun comes in
"OK, what did I put in this" or "where did I put that?". Or, Steve will
hunt thru half the drawers looking for something, then give up and ask
where it is "hiding". It's usually in the drawer he's got open. (G)

RH> One of my beefs with it is that pans slide all over the place if you
RH> don't hold them down while stirring somethhing. Making sure I don't p
RH> naything on the hot surface is another issue I've got to deal with. (G

CS> Ugg. I hate the sound of it already. Can you have it traded out? I
CS> guess not or you wouldnt be trying to adapt. The downside of military
CS> housing, you have little choice at all on such things.

True; these smooth tops are all the rage now. If I could, I'd rather
have a gas stove anyway but.............

RH> We've never been able to put the microwave "away". When we got our
RH> first one in 1984, we got a cart for it. It's been used off and on fo

CS> Well, as of yesterday, ours is loaned out for the next 3 weeks or so.
CS> We wont miss it much. If it wasnt a gift, we'd never have had one
CS> probably and now that we have, once it dies, we wont replace it.

Whereas ours gets used probably daily for something or other.

CS> strange, is the collander for straining pasta. I barely use it.

RH> OTOH, I use mine regularly (regular strainer w/holes on the bottom

CS> I use mine for other things like straining the flotsam from a broth,
CS> but I have other methods for that too. Pasta hits us once a month
CS> maybe (discounting things like udon).

That's because you didn't marry an Italian (actually, half but on mom's
side). I do have a mesh strainer that gets pressed into service from
time to time; I know I'll need it when I make the turkey stock from the
Thanksgiving bird my MIL had.

RH> (G) Reminds me, I need to get meat thawed out for making meat balls
RH> later this week.

CS> Ok! Me, it's a bit of fish. Gonna make fishballs with miso.

Sounds good. The commissary fish selection here isn't as good as the
one in HI & we've not found any local fish markets yet.
