Hi Carol,

RH> That's what the Mexican I had the other day was. Steve added the
RH> remainders (a couple of tablespoonsful) of the bowl of salsa to his bu
RH> I thought it good without the extra heat.

CS> The ones I had were not at all hot which was perfect for me.

I don't mind some heat if it truly adds to the flavor but hot for hot's
sake is not a good excuse to dump on the sauce.

RH> Yes, and if you get to fly into the west coast and drive cross country
RH> you will find a Mexican place or two.

CS> Naw, no car to pickup. We'll get something when we get wherever we
CS> go. Norfolk looks more and more likely now.

OK, we picked up a car in Las Vegas (rented one from LA for 24 hours).
It allowed us to make a less frantic effort to get to GA so we could
stop & visit folks en route. Since we needed new wheels, it worked out
well--even considering we put the deal together in about 3 week's time.

CS> able to keep online via the laptop. I'm looking forward to the
CS> Fukuoka (Hakata station) food court.

RH> Have fun; hopefully Don will be able to do more fishing on this trip.
RH> If he has a decent haul, is there any way you can bring some back to
RH> Japan with you?

CS> Um, Okinawa is Japan <g>. But no, not to Sasebo. Too much time and

I meant more to the main islands; can't say main land since Japan is
made up of several islands. (G)

CS> travel between places. We can have one of them filleted for that

Oh well, probably more fun in just going out to fish anyway for him.

CS> night though. I gather it's medium fish time just now so look to
CS> 30-40lb fish mostly. Just hoping the weather holds as it's too late
CS> to change pattern and we have the only day they have a trip scheduled

Let's hope so; I remember your trip last year (?) when he couldn't go
out. Two times in a row wouldbe hard, especially because this is
probably your last trip there.

RH> hard time relaxing some of the standards I was brought up with when
RH> Steve and I first got married but I would have had fun with a flock
RH> attack.

CS> I am sure you would have! We got one yesterday and made bread. We
CS> made dough in the machine then made rolls from that with various seed
CS> toppings (had to borrow an egg as i was out so one of the kids ran
CS> over to get one). David wanted to know how you get the seeds to stick
CS> on so we made an eggwash and sprinkled them with various ones I have
CS> here. They got creative and made little bread-men with
CS> sunflower-seeds and seaweed for the 'hair'. One of them was really
CS> cute. A little ogre with hairy armpits.

Sounds cute. I just pulled my bread out of the machine; it looks
somewhat better than the brick the first one was but still could have
stood to have risen more.

CS> Then they wanted to play 'face-paints' so made up a slurry with
CS> cornstarch, cold-cream, food coloring (not too much, didnt want to
CS> stain their skin). Told'em to go change into 'ratty clothes and warn
CS> Mom' then tucked old tshrts over them all and let'em have fun on the
CS> porch. That spresd to making an Xmas display on my glass doors from
CS> watercolors (perfectly safe and washes off fine, it's the outside they
 CS> painted).

A safe face paint uses corn syrup, food coloring and something else non
toxic; I've seen a "recipe" usually in the October magazines.

CS> I made up a big batch of pancit with the stuff we cant eat up before
CS> we go tomorrow. I had lots of oyster mushrooms and shimenji so that
CS> with squid and a stray octopus tentacle made the basis of the meats.
CS> Rest was veggies and stuff.

Good way to clean out the fridge. Right now my freezer is so full I
really have to get creative to fit much more in. But, some stuff will
come out this week when I do the gren beans, make meatballs for us, etc.
I still miss a big freezer tho.

RH> I know; Steve had a set of identical female twins in his last unit.
RH> They even had the same rank (G) but were in different companies.

CS> We have a set on the ship like that. Doing brother duty this tour.

Must make it fun for those who aren't aware of the fact there are twins
aboard. (G)

CS> It has me giggling too. 'Oh no, I'm just a little fishy! I wanna

RH> Thanks for my giggle of the day. I'll have to let Steve read this too

CS> Don had the little fish threatening the goldfish tank (Fishie and
 CS> fishette in there).

And they just ignored the small fry.

CS> I took the Mom down to Tonoo market with me and Elise this morning.
CS> We needed more fresh veggies and she wanted to see which spots we go

RH> Funny thing, after a few months in Germany, I was showing ones that ha
RH> been there longer some of the places I was haunting. Others never lef
RH> the "little America" compounds & couldn't wait to get back to the
RH> States.

CS> Happens here too. I suspect anyplace where the culture is different.
CS> Waste of life-time if you ask me, but some choose it.

I know; the kids are the ones that will be most deprived in the long
run.
