Thought about taking a trip to the real Narita when on
layover in Narita ... between the difficulties with the
currency and the ticket machines (this was years ago,
no credit cards) and the fact that it was easy to get to
downtown Tokyo but hard to get anyplace else if you were
illiterate in Japanese (I have had friends who managed to
miss downtown Tokyo even), plus forgetting which side the
trains came on, I just slunk back to the airport (you have
to go through security anyhow whenever you change planes
there, so no big difference) and watched the Amazing Beer
Machine in the Red Carpet Club (also available at the
All Nippon Lounge) for a couple hours. [Look up Amazing
Beer Machine on Google or something; it's amusing, though
not as amazing as all that: it's just a machine that tilts
the empty glass up to the beer spigot just the way a barman
would, then fills the glass just so, then shoots just the
right amount of foam on top.]

Good for you samaritans. When would the next base bus have

It's a site that sells luggage. I'd never heard of it
myself until I watched Carol surf.

My checked bag is a rolling backpack with orange wheels.
When it was new it stood out fine, but now the wheels
are all scuffed up and it's harder to identify (for me
with the eyesight thing).

Rosti with tuna
cat:
servings: 6

6 lg potatoes
1 cn tuna in water
100 g butter
1 bn chives
s, p

Wash the potatoes; put them in a pot of cold salted water; bring
to a boil and cook 10 min. Drain, peel, and cool completely.

Grate the potatoes coarsely and season.

Drain the tuna fish.

Rinse, dry, and mince the chives.

Mix the chives and tuna into the grated potatoes.

Melt a bit of butter in a nonstick frying pan. Put in a heaping
tablespoon of the mixture and flatten with a spatula. Cook for
3 min per side. Drain on paper towels and keep hot.

Wipe the pan with paper towels and repeat the operation until
all the mixture is fried. Serve hot.
