Ärende: Re: Fishing, Okinawa!
=============================
Happy Holidays Carol!
->
-> -> hn> half and
-> -> hn> half...and that's only because Anne likes it in her tea!
-> ->
-> -> I buy half and half every 2 years <G>. Some oddball recipe has me get
-> hn> some.
-> ->
-> hn> Like I said, Anne likes it in her tea...otherwise we'd probably have n
-> hn> products in the house at all (girn)
->
-> I keep my dried milk for cooking. Many recipes call for the dry powder. A
-> container lasts a long time here.

It might last decades here (grin). If I need milk for a recipe I just go out
and
get it at the time. I like to use coconut milk in some of my recipes as well.
->
-> -> Probably (eyes the jalapeno jar with a murderous gleam).
-> ->
-> hn> Habbies are certainly hot enough...but I don't like the slightly overr
-> hn> apricoty flavor of them as much...so I'd alos use several less hot but
-> hn> tasting ones as well!
->
-> Sanchos perchance? Not sure you can get them where you are or if you
can, if
-> they are the same. They are slightly milder than Jalapenos (not by much,
but
-> they are).

I'll have to look, I generally go jalepeno or hotter when I have the choice.
Anaheims and pasilla's perhaps when I want less heat than jalepenos. We
have a large asian (Korean, laotian, Viet, Hmong, 'Yards, Thai and Cambodian)
community and a large and growing ever larger Hispanic population so our
choices of peppers have been expanded as the new "tastes" move in. I like!
Even the asian markets are giving increased space to latino products. And
the Mexican imports REALLY like the hot Korean food!
->
-> -> How in the world do you make teriyaki sauce?
->
->
-> hn> Well I DO like the ginger flavor so my recipe has quite a goodly bit i
-> hn> it (grin)
->
-> hn> Hap's Teriaki Sauce
-> hn> 1/2 cup low sodium soy sauce
->
-> Thanks! Tucked that to the side to look at. If you leave out the brown
sugar
-> and look at some of my xxcarol recipes, you can see something a bit like it
but
->
-> I dont use the term 'teriyaki' for any of it.
->
That's where I first found it and tweaked it to suit our tastes (Anne likes
sweet so that's where the sugar came in). Jim uses sesame oil in his...I've
never done that but may give it a go in my next batch (this week probably
now that Amanda is home for a week or so!) to see how I like it.
-> ->
-> -> Good! They take some getting used to on the eye appeal but they
-> hn> certainly hit
-> -> the spot at the right time in a dish. Sprinkled over butter-sauted
-> hn> mushroom
-> -> bits, they are killer perfect.
-> ->
-> -> Have you tried pan frying them fast in a hot cast iron skillet? Yo
-> hn> a
-> -> little drizze of oil if you like or just salt and pepper to a well
-> -> then shake as if they were popcorn kernals for a minute.
-> ->
-> hn> Or seasoned salt, and a bit of chili powder, cumin and garlic powder..
->
-> (On Niboshi, little dried fishes, guppy sized). Yes, I use garlic and chili

-> powder mixes on them too. Cumin? Probably have tried that.
->
Souinds yummy to me!

-> -> -> as another post where someone said kiwi's taste like strawberries).
-> -> ->
-> -> hn> And what do you think they taste like?
-> ->
-> -> Umm, Kiwi? They taste like Kiwi. A tart but quite strong taste that
has
-> -> little to do with a strawberry except the strawberry can be 'tart'.
-> ->
-> hn> To me they have a decidedly strawberry like taste, more tart however
a
-> hn> with almost watermelon undertones as well.
->
-> Wierd! Not here, or not to my tastebuds. I'd relate them closer to
calamansi
-> or a limey-honeydew if i had to pick a flavor that was close to them.
{erhaps
-> you are thinking of a sweet pickled watermelon rime? Yes, that would
relate
-> except it's totally missing the tartness.

We have em fairly often here, we have friends who grow them and we get
plenty in season and they are cheap enough at the store we can usually get
em 5/$1.oo. I make a fruity salad with blueberries, kiwi, papaya, lime juice
and cilantro and a mild green or red pepper...yummalicious!
Isn't it interesting how different people's tastebuds sense flavors? Or is it
you
taste the samething but describe it differently?
Hmmmmmm
chat with you soon
hap (who can hardly wait for Christmas to give Annie her new laptop!!)
