Both my grandkids tried to once but were stopped in time. They were
smart enough that a single lecture sufficed. I think Glen's idea is an
admirable one. And just because a switch is available doesn't mean you
have to use it all the time.

Babies just love pushing buttons (my computer and cell phone have never
fully recovered) and sticking objects into holes.

Rachael Ray Gets the Word

Prolific phenom Rachael Ray -- with 13 cookbooks, a lifestyle magazine,
three television programs and branded cookware, appliances and cutlery
(they forgot mention a collection of christmas carol CDs! -JW) -- has
officially become a wordsmith. One of her catchphrases will be
immortalized in the 2007 edition of the Oxford American College
Dictionary. That would be EVOO, short for extra- virgin olive oil.

"It's C-O-O-L," Ray writes us in an e-mail. Unlike "yummo," another of
her favorites, EVOO "is not a made-up word anymore," she writes. She
calls the term "a time-saver. It's a mouthful to say extra-virgin olive
oil over and over again," especially when it is your "most important
kitchen ingredient."

Early this month, Erin McKean, editor in chief of Oxford University  
Press, presented Ray with a certificate, saying: "We look at thousands
of words every year, and very few of them get in. It has to be useful to
people, and we see people using EVOO."

We're thinking "Oh, my gravy" is bound to be considered next.

     Title: [Pinoy-Food] Mussels Or Tahong
Categories: Filipino, Mussels
  Servings: 2

           Mussels - still in shell
           (about a pound or so)
      1 md sized onion, sliced
      1 md sized ginger, peeled and
           julienned
      2    cloves of garlic
    1/8 lb leafy vegetable
           black pepper corns
        pn salt or to taste
           cooking oil

Saute onion, garlic and ginger until onion becomes translucent in color.
Add mussels. Saute for about a minute. Add 3 cups water or just half way
through the mussels. Add the pepper corns. Let it boil and add the leafy
vegetables. Let it simmer for about 2-3 minutes. Season with salt and
serve.
