Ärende: Military housing

In Canada the quality of military housing is based on rank but the
size of the unit is dependent on the number of dependents. My best
ever tenant was a single major who had too much stuff for the size
of the place he was allotted. It was in the nicest apartment
building in town but it was just 720 sq ft with 1 bedroom and a den.
He needed a garage, a work shop, a junk room, an exercise room and a
guest bedroom so he rented my large town house and gave up the
subsidized crown housing.

Ironically, through the real estate company, I had leased eight
other units in the same condominium complex to the federal
government at $1400 per month who in turn leased them out to
military people at just $850 (one of the perks of a northern
posting is that they only pay rents at the national average, not the
local rate). He wanted one of those units but was denied as they had
three bedrooms and he was single. So he rented directly from me at
$1400. He stayed 6 years, kept the place in great shape and even
made minor repairs so I never raised his rent although the rest of
the units went up to $1800 over the years.

He was extremely easy going. When he was posted to Afghanistan for 6
months I helped him sub-let the place to a construction company's
crew for $2400 (on a furnished basis). When he returned and we were
checking the place and his furniture for damage I asked if he was
satisfied. All he said was that there was a bit of wear and tear but
not $6000 worth which was what the surcharge was so everything was
fine.


MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.06
 
      Title: Barbeque Sauce with Chipotles
 Categories: Bbq, Sauces, Chilies, Onion
      Yield: 5 cups
 
      6    Chipolte chiles
      1 c  Boiling water
      2 tb Butter
      1    Onion, diced
      4    Garlic cloves, minced
  1 1/2 ts Groun cumin
  1 1/2 ts Ground thyme
      1    12 oz. cn tomato paste
    1/2 c  Brn sugar
  1 1/2 c  Cider vinegar
  1 1/2 ts Dry mustard (Coleman's)
  1 1/2 c  Water
      1 tb Soy sauce
      1 ts Tabasco sauce
 
  Combine chiles and boiling water.  Soak for 1 hr. Then remove the
  stems and seeds and chop.   In large nonaluminum saucepan, melt
  butter. Saute onion, garlic, cumin, and thyme oveer low hea until
  onions are soft and translucent, abt. 5 min. Add the chiles,
  soaking water, and remaining ingreds.  Bring to boil. Partially
  cover and simmer for 1 hr. Taste and adjust the seasonings. Can be
  stored in 'fridge for 3 wks. Freezes well.
