Hi Janis,

 JK> > I was 25 when Rachel was born, a month short of 27 for Deborah. I'm
JK> > glad I had them young; I could never keep up with them now.

 JK> I had my first when I was 21 - My daughter came around 2 1/2 years
JK> later. But I agree with you... I'm glad I did have them when I was
 JK> young :)

We had the energy to run after them then. (G)

>> want to slip out for dinner "alone".. so
>> we'll keep the kids with us at the house. They'll have all their toys

JK> > Sounds good; are you going to do a grandma's special meal for them?

JK> I was going to, but my daughter suggested we get something delivered
JK> to the house - So we ordered some veggie pizza :) Everybody was happy
JK> with that.. even the little guy :) He especially like eating all the
 JK> broccolli off it <g>

He's be a good one for some of these Hidden Valley Ranch commercials
I've seen. Maybe he needs to visit the White House too; I understand GW
takes after his dad in not liking broccoli.

>> don't expect any problems at all.

JK> > Most likely. One of these days we hope to be closer to Robert so he
JK> can > visit us easier.

JK> Yes, it was great when they were living upstairs, and some days we
JK> miss having them "around" <grin>. But they are really happy in Ithaca,
 JK> so that's good :)

Far enough away that they're not on your doorstep, close enough to visit
easily.

>> I'd love to see Christmas in Europe someday.. bet it's beautiful.

JK> > Yes, and one thing we appreciated about it was that you didn't see
JK> the > commercialisation of it so early in the year as in the States.

JK> That's what I hear from some of my international friends.. :)

JK> > in Berlin the first sign I saw of it on the economy was in a grocery
JK> > store I went into at the end of October; they were just getting
JK> their > Christmas display out. OTOH, the PX had had theirs out since
 JK> Labor Day.

JK> I guess that makes sense as well.. people would be used to seeing it
 JK> that way <grin>

Plus it gave people long enough lead time to do lay away & get it paid
for. I did a mix of shopping for things at the PX and in town; putting
up the pyramid this year, I noticed the box still had a price tag on of
DM 39.95 or about $25 at the exchange rate at the time. It was a bit of
a splurge but I am glad I got it.

>> trucks on the road <grin>, and it's worth it. In the 'Ithaca Commons'
>> shops.. the cooking equipment store is there as well. There are some
>> great restaurants there - Lauren loves showing off all her
>> discoveries there so I've had "the tour" <grin>.

JK> > Now that sounds like a fun idea! We may have to find a place to
JK> stay > closer on than my parents so we can be in on all the fun.
JK> Besides, it > would beat driving around the Pepacton reservoir at
JK> night; we don't want > to contribute car killed venison to the picnic.

JK> Don't blame you at all :) I haven't seen any deer around here this
JK> winter which is good, but you never know with them.. My daughter told

We've not seen many this year either. Last year, the one road we take
on/off post had quite a few but we've hardly seen any this year. Same
with other wildlife.

JK> me she saw a whole crowd of them in her yard though, about a few weeks
 JK> ago..

Safe from hunters there. (G)

>> Asian shop, and the Korean restaurant, etc. but I guess you might
>> say Ithaca is more like Woodstock, NY (the real Woodstock, not the

JK> > I grew up about 45 minutes from the real thing. (G)

JK> hehehe that's true :) Well, I grew up in Warwick, in Orange County..
JK> Can you believe my Dad wouldn't let me go to the festival??? <laugh>

I couldn't go either. Looking back, I don't think I would have really
wanted to except for some of the performances.

>> farm in Sullivan County where the concert was <g>) if you've ever been

JK> > Max Yasger's farm in BetheL? Been there, seen it.

JK> Yep, old Max. Ron grew up in Monticello :) I think he'd graduated
JK> from Hopkins by the time of the festival.. I know he was living
JK> somewhere close to the farm so he just "went" to the concert <g>.

As did a whole lot of other people.

>> > Found out the A&P in Margaretville (where my parents live) is

>> That's so sad to hear.. especially with the cost of gas now.. Windsor
>> has an A&P-type market in the village.. but most people go to
>> Binghamton to do their serious shopping.

JK> > Still closer than Oneonta or Kingston are to my parents.

 JK> Yes, that's certainly true.

And no mountains with snowy/icy roads to go over to get to Binghamton
either. My younger brother was in an accident a couple of weeks ago
because of bad road conditions. A couple of other cars got involved but
nobody was hurt.

>> I think the most used set for me is a copper Revere ware set.. I've
JK> the pan kinda tilts.. well, it won't sit flat on the burner grill. :)
JK> Probably time to retire them :( or get a new set ...

>> had them since Ron and I got married (wow, just thinking about that
JK> > Too long ago? It's been 32 years for us.

JK> I think it's 36 for us :) We are so bad with remembering our
JK> anniversary :) I don't think we've remembered it once in all these
JK> years <grin>. I guess we just always knew this was it, a perfect

We can't forget; it's engraved in our rings. (G)

JK> match, and the actual ceremony didn't mean that much to us :) Ron's

We used an old Church of England ceremony with a few of our own
additions. For the length of time we knew each other after we met but
before we got married, we didn't see each other very often (college,
work, etc), never really dated but knew we were right for each other.

JK> mother used to send us "happy anniversary" cards and that's how we'd
JK> know, OOPS we missed it again <laugh>.

We get them from Steve's mom--usually just before our anniversary. (G)

>> <bg>).. though I also have 3 pieces of of Farberware, and a large set
>> of cast iron pots.. those cast iron pots are the best thing I ever
>> spent money on I think <smile>. They are so easy to clean and always
