G'day Hap,

 -> cross the Pacific for the cost of an implant, that sort of repair is
 -> hardly worth doing. I'll get a much cheaper clipped in denture. As
 -> long as I can bite apples and gnaw bones I'll be happy.
 ->
 HN> Michael says good dental work can be
 HN> gotten in Thailand...or maybe another
 HN> trip back to the Phillipines might be
 HN> in order!

As a consequence of sweet, sticky cakes being popular among Filipinos,
there are many dentists in the Philippines, some of them quite good,
and I have seriously considered that latter alternative. I am always
welcome there, and I have a house in Manila, well stocked with resident
and transient relatives. As patriach I have first choice of the master
bedroom, although now that married children from overseas often arrange
to rendezvous with me there, I usually do the Filipino hospitality
thing and give them my bed, while I bunk in with the younger ones.

For now, though, that option is out, as all planes are booked out
months ahead. Also, family involvements have been arranged here. I
had my first dental appointment and impressions taken this morning, and
repeat visits will go on until after Christmas.

 -> -> BTW, where in the South Pacific have you been? I've spent time in a
 -> HN> Hawaii, Guam, Johnson Island, Wake, and Kwajalein.
 -> Hmmm. Hawaii and Guam are North Pacific. Not sure about Wake and
 -> Kwajalein, but I think they are north of the equator. Don't know
 -> Johnson Island at all.
 ->
 HN> North Pacific to you perhaps, to me
 HN> that was Plenty South Pacific enough!

At least you got them more or less tropical.

 HN> If you want North Pacific, come on up
 HN> my way or Bill Swisher's...we can show
 HN> you some NORTH Pacific!

That is the *Far* North Pacific! Polar bear country. :)

 -> Pain in your mouth and your wallet! Good luck with your dentist's
 -> drill bit mining.
 ->
 HN> Just finished my colonoscopy today,
 HN> now I have my dental visit on monday
 HN> the 8th....I'm getting it from both ends now!!

Everything done to get you into good condition before Christmas.
So far the PSA and other readings in my blood tests have not indicated
the necessity for any invasive or X-ray investigations of my body, for
which I am grateful.

 -> My schedule for 2009 has started to fill up, with Darwin daughter and
 -> her family arriving just after Christmas and staying into the new year.
 -> A week later I have to visit Perth daughter and her family for a
 -> fortnight (she bought my tickets yesterday). My Echo postings will
 -> probably become a bit erratic then.
 ->
 HN> You should get a cheap laptop with
 HN> wifi capability and give us reports
 HN> from all these exotic locales!

Both those families have Broadband connection, and computers available
for Interneting and Emailing, but they are too modern to run Bananacom,
which I use to dial up my local BBS. I don't like posting stuff to the
Echo or writing Emails on-line, as sometimes I make mistakes or want to
go away for a while to check references or eat or something.

 HN> OOooooo PERTH!!!!!

A lovely city. As it will be school Christmas holidays, I anticipate
taking my 9 yo grandson around to the sort of places that his working
parents haven't had a chance to take him to, like the suburb of South
Perth, a 20 minute ferry ride. There are other destinations that the
ferries go to, including the port of Fremantle and Rottnest Island,
where he could meet the friendly Quokkas.

      Title: STUFFED VEAL CUTLETS
 Categories: Mains, Veal, Restaurants, Australian
      Yield: 6 Servings

      6    Veal cutlets, 250g ea
      6 lg Tomatoes- ripe;pref. smoked
      2 tb Olive oil
    100 g Prosciutto; or Parma ham
           Salt and pepper
           Basil leaves; 2 garnish
           ; STUFFING
      3 md Onions; sliced
    200 g  Butter
           Salt and pepper
    300 g  Breadcrumbs- white; fresh
      1 tb Basil leaves; chop fine

  If you are fortunate enough to be able to obtain smoked tomatoes,
  these veal cutlets will definitely be out of the ordinary. However,
  even with regular tomatoes, this easily prepared dish is well worth
  trying. Serves 6.

  Prepare the stuffing first by frying the onions in a little of the
  butter until golden brown. Shred the parma ham and add to the onions
  together with salt and pepper to taste. Leave to cool. Reserve 3 1/2
  (Aus: 3) tablespoons of the butter and add the remainder, together
  with the breadcrumbs and basil, to the Slit a pocket in the side of
  each veal cutlet and fill with the stuffing. Close the pocket by
  pressing the ends together. Heat the reserved butter in a frying pan
  until very hot and sear the cutlets for about 2 minutes on each side.
  Transfer to a pan and Peel -the tomatoes, cut in half and discard the
  seeds. Chop the flesh coarsely. Heat the olive oil in a saucepan and
  fry the slices of parma ham until crisp. Keep the ham aside for
  garnishing and in the oil remaining in the pan, cook the chopped
  tomatoes Divide the tomatoes among 6 plates and put a cooked veal
  cutlet on top of each. Garnish with the fried Parma ham and basil and
  serve with fresh seasonal vegetables and potatoes.
