Haven't had any more family gatherings like that since.  We have been to
the one sister's home different times for holidays; she doesn't like me
to help her in the kitchen.  She cooks "fancy" stuff, meant to make an
impression, for holidays.  One year she mentioned the cost of the cut of
beef she got--it was a good chunk of our monthly budget for a family of
4's groceries.  We've not visited my youngest sister since we stopped
briefly the day we got back from Berlin, just seen her at my parent's
home. There she helps with clean up but I've not seen her cook.  Oh, and
the other sister--she was about to throw away the turkey carcass from
Thaksgiving dinner 5 years ago after I took the meat off it.  There was
enough residual meat on it that she let me take it; I made a big pot of
soup for Rachel & David just after Robert was born. That year she had
done the turkey on their outdoor gas grill.

I've seen that done; it gives a pretty effect for not that much extra
work.

Some of them are really quite clever.  I've got a book on simple
garnishes--keep meaning to do some with some meals but getting around to
it...............(G)  Sometimes just the arraingement of the foods on a
plate can make it quite attractive. I try to do that whenever I send or
take a plate of food somewhere. It only takes an extra minute or so but
it's better than a piled up jumble.

Don't expect any great knowledge of the higher maths out of me.  I do
well with "kitchen" and quilting math but not the abstract ones. (G)
