ML>> I'm a sucker for that texture, which reminds many westerners
ML>> of bodily effluvia, so they don't seem to care for it. Welcome
ML>> to the world of honorary Asians!
NB>> If it tastes good, texture is secondary... usually... :)

ML> Okay, you're perhaps not quite that Asian. For many Asians,
ML> texture is quite important - especially a variety thereof.

Perhaps I misstated quite what I intended... Put it that way, yes,
texture, particularly a variety thereof, is important... I was more
trying to say that I wouldn't be putting bad connotations to (most,
anyway) textures. As it is, I rather like the texture of glutinous rice
things... as well as the taste. :)

NB>> Nowadays, I could eat Asian food every day of the week
NB>> without a problem (something I can't always say about the
 NB>> traditional American diet)...

ML> I could eat a steak every day of the week. True, I could eat
ML> Chinese food every day of the week, too.

I rather surprise both my caucasian and my asian friends with my
proclivity to asian foods... or, at least, I used to... now they are
pretty well use to it... Ask me where we should go for lunch (or
dinner, for that matter), and it will usually be chinese or sushi...

 ML>> Daikon cake
NB>> Interesting. This is apparently the same recipe, using daikon, that
NB>> our dim sum place uses for their turnip cakes ... which I always want
 NB>> to call radish cakes...

ML> Interestingly, they are also sometimes called carrot cakes
ML> despite having not so much carrot.

So... you think that what we are getting are indeed daikon cakes? Just
called turnip cakes? (Of the two, *I* think that daikon sounds more
appetizing...) Maybe I'll remember to ask one of the servers (that
speaks/understands more English) more details about what theirs are made
of. :)

ML> I'm bored, I've shoveled the walk here four times (we've had
ML> close to a foot of white stuff), and all my concerts this
ML> week have been cancelled. Rrrrr.

We've had quite a dump here, over the last few days... Richard finally
dug out my car yesterday, and managed to get it out of the driveway this
morning... it's been sitting there since Thursday night, before the snow
really got started... He managed to get his out on Friday morning, and
dug out again on Saturday, and then again on Sunday morning... but was a
bit chicken to do mine, especially as his was bad enough to get out.
It's out on the street now, and I still have to clear most of the stuff
off it...

I'm sorry your concerts were cancelled... will they be rescheduled?
They were cancelling things right and left on Friday here, too. But the
RPO concert went on as scheduled... dunno what kind of attendance they
had, but it probably wasn't too bad, considering.

ML> After my mother's recipe, which I think was pretty standard
ML> P.S. I bet you didn't know my mother was German. [joke]
 ML> Source: moi

Reminds me of a funny occurence... My friend Karen and I went to a
Chinese buffet one day for lunch. Admittedly it was one where I was
known to be a regular. The waitress brought me chopsticks without even
asking (she knew that I wanted them, of course)... but Karen, who is
from Hawaii, and looks very much her 100% Asian heritage, had to ask for
her pair of chopsticks... she was laughing about that all the way
home... and still does, whenever she thinks about it... I guess we all
can tend to pick up the cultures we inhabit.. :)
