=============================
Hey, I figured right away that it wasn't Nick - in common with
other Nicks of my acquaintance, it appears that yours can be
generous enough at times (though maybe a tad pretentious).

HN> Ooooh I dunno, I'll bet that tin would make some GREAT
HN> popovers for your Brother in law who won't share the
 HN> wine! (grin)

I could see serving the guy poopovers ...

AP> No... he should buy new ones for the brother-in-law who is the wine
AP> miser and then christen them with his own pee... Mouse pee is too good

or Yorkshire piddling.

-=> Dave Sacerdote said to Hap Newsom <=-
DS> Hahahaha, how true. But the Rules of Hospitality still apply,
 DS> despite all.

Oh, rats. I'd thought of a couple cool revenges. Like making a
roast beef and serving it in various degrees of doneness to
various parts of the table. You could serve a rare and juicy
slice to you and your wife and a nice gray piece to your
daughter. Your selfish turd and nutcase could get a piece that
was truly char-broiled, not unlike the hamburger I had yesterday.

I was at a certain airport, waiting to get to Washington, and
our equipment was delayed by bad weather in Chicago. One of the
things about flying on a massively humongous airline is that
its schedulers do these arcane equipment movements to maximize
the loads, and of course a little weather happens, and all those
nice calculations are out the window. And the passengers wait
for 2 hours extra. Anyhow, I had those extra hours, and all I'd
had for supper was whiskey, so I wandered about and found the
most attractive choice to be an oyster bar whose oysters were
a couple bucks and change each. So I decided to settle for one
of the following: Starbuck's, Quizno's, Famous Famiglia, or
Johnny Rocket's. These are listed in order of preference, and
I ordered a Rocket Double, which is essentially a 1.5x-size
Big Mac for twice the price. It's available as a combo with
fries for the lower 8s or rings for the upper 8s. I went with
the latter. What came: about half a pound of rings, half done
half done (tasty but soggy), half done double done (like eating
scorched onions off the grill, only heavily coated in burned
cornmeal coating); also a sizable sandwich that had soggy
lettuce, soggy tomato, secret sauce (mayo+relish), and two
skinny squashed flat patties that may have been 4 oz each
before they were incinerated: the middles were hyper well done,
and the edges were so hard and charcoaly that they were
difficult to chew. I envision your serving to a noteworthy
in-law this kind of substance.

Or, to circumvent the laws of hospitality (does he obey those,
too?) you could bring your own food when invited to their house!
Juicy rare roast beast; smoked pig with tender but firm meat
alternating with ribbons of melting white; plump to bursting
sausages. And unpack it at the table, portioning careful thirds
to yourself, Maryanne, and Lynnie.

Or you could bring your own beverage, I hear the Charles Shaw
Merlot is particularly fine today. Schlitz malt liquor might
also be appropriate. Nah, the silly tendentious asshat nobody
might take you too seriously.

Or you could bring zucchini as a house gift.

Title: Fresh Zucchini Soup Picante [Oregon]
 Categories: Soup/stew, Favorite, Dairy
      Yield: 4 Servings

MMMMM-------------------AMERICAN MEASUREMENTS------------------------
  1 1/2 lb Zucchini, grated
      2 ea Slices bacon, diced
      1 sm Onion, chopped
5 1/3 fl Chicken broth or stock
     12 fl Water
    1/2 ts Dried Basil
      1 ea Clove garlic, minced
      2 tb Fresh Parsley; minced
    1/2 ts Salt
    1/8 ts Black pepper
    1/2 ts Seasoned Salt
           Grated Parmesan cheese

Saute bacon and onion until onion is limp. Combine rest of
ingredients and cook until zucchini is tender. Serve topped with
  grated Parmesan cheese.

Note: Zucchini may be shredded, cubed or sliced. For an interesting
variation, try zucchini puree. Or add tomato, either chopped or
puree. Soup is also good served chilled. Very versatile and one of
  my favorites.
