Thanks. So we're talking just about the side cheek,
sans skin, wattle, fat, etc. I've never seen a whole
beef cheek except on the hoof ... my experience with
the cut has been in restaurants, where it's been
diced up and put in stews or in gelee or similar.

I'd have considered just leaving the appropriate sum on the
counter and walking out with the merchandise.

One of the few good things one can say about Stop & Shop out
east here is that the policy is that if one is charged more
than the advertised or shelf price, the item (first example
thereof) is free. This of course was codified long before the
Royal Aholds took over the company.

So Loblaw's got the benefit of advertising the sale price -
i.e., getting you into the store - without having to take the
financial hit!

I actually once threw a brick at a rat. The thing was so big
that the brick just bounced off, and it ran away, perhaps
nursing just a tiny bit of an ache.

      Title: Thai Green Pawpaw (Papaya) Salad
 Categories: Asian, Salads, Side dish, Appetizers
      Yield: 1 Servings

      1 cl Garlic
      2 T  Peanuts, cooked and crushed
      2 t  Raw sugar
      2    Chillies, rat dropping
    1/2    Tomato, large
      1 c  Shredded green pawpaw
      3 T  Fish sauce
      2 T  Lime juice

  In a large mortar, crush together, garlic, peanuts and sugar. Add
  whole chillies to taste, and crush some more. Add remaining
  ingredients and crush until the ingredients are bruised, rather than
  squashed, and thoroughly mixed. Serve at warm room temperature as an
  accompaniment to a main dish, or as an appetiser.
