Yes, the first way was good, but not really good.  The other way is
REALLY good.  I'm emptying out the pantry in anticipation of the next
move so I used all red wine vinegar this time. Some times I use a mix of
that and cider, other times just straight cider.  We'll enjoy the last
of the sauerbraten tonight.  I also had the "smarts" to put all the
small whole spices (cloves, peppercorns, juniper berries) into a
disposable tea filter that I tied with a bit of kitchen twine. Saved
having to fish them out of the mix later.  I didn't put the bay leaves
in, figuring they were big enough to easily spot in the bowl.

Don't know if it was better to just hear about it or to see and hear; it
was bad no matter what.

Very short; Steve enlisted in early February of 1983.  She wasn't quite
3; we celebrated her 3rd birthday on a short break between Basic and
language school.  She wants to make Sergeant Major one of these days.
