I think there were a few stringy bits of onion in these, making
them better than the standard round issue, but certainly there was
insubstantial if any heat. Oh, I was just reminded - these were
onion sticks, not rings, and they were not the chopped and
reconstituted monstrosities; just very uninspired onions.

It was a mediocre Popeye's, but the food and the deal were
way better than at the vindictive King.

I should have had the McDonald's Mega Prosperity Burger
out in Singapore instead. Oh, yes, and I should have tried
the KFC in Indonesia: people say the chicken is much
better and more highly spiced in Asia.

This one reminds me vaguely of a failblog.org video of
some guy trying to get free stuff out of a vending machine
by ninja-kicking it.

Though I didn't watch 1 pixel of the headbutting contest,
your post made me go to that weird site and look at all
61 of the things. I am proud to report that I couldn't
understand most of them. I'm with Dale that the Clydesdale
ones touched my heart, but not enough to make me want to
buy Budweiser.

Fried Dumplings
Cat: starter, dim sum
Yield: about 50

2/3 lb ground pork
1/4 ts black pepper
1 Tb cooking wine
1 Tb sesame oil
3 Tb soy sauce
3 Tb water
1 lb bok choy Taiwanese bok choy
2 Tb oil
1/2 c bamboo shoots (fresh or canned, minced)
1/2 c Chinese black mushrooms (presoftened in cold water, minced)
1 c yellow chinese chives (minced)
50 dumpling skins
oil
water

Mix ground pork with the next 5 ingredients. Blanch bok choy
in hot water briefly; remove and plunge in cold water to cool.
Squeeze out water then mince.

Heat 2 Tb oil. Stir-fry bamboo shoots until yellow. Add mushrooms
and stir-fry until fragrant. Remove and let cool. Mix well with
pork, bok choy and chives to make filling.

Place filling in center of each dumpling skin; fold in the two
ends and seal the edges with water.

Heat 1 Tb oil in a non-stick pan; arrange half the dumplings in a
pan (fry them in batches). Fry until dumpling bottoms turn brown;
pour in 1/2 c water. Cover and cook over medium heat 6 minutes.
Uncover and continue to cook until water evaporates; invert on a
plate and serve. May be served with rice.

Note: Uncooked dumplings may be frozen. To fry the frozen dumplings,
arrange the dumplings in a non-stick pan, pour in 3/4 c water; cover
and cook over medium heat 10 minutes. Uncover and continue to cook
until water evaporates; invert on a plate and serve.
