Whether the Manhattan, or the Denver or to the Hot Beef Sandwich
or Western ... I think Jim, you are right, as I used to in my
travels go into restaurants, and I had my favourites run by
wonderful people who had their roots in other countrys, and
they had these amazing dishes .... Toasted Western for quickies
while I was on the run..or driving, or in the passenger seat
as well a nice dinner while out on the road with a Hot Beef Sandwich.
 
In the few days, since this subject of the Toasted Western, I
checked with a few eaterys here, and I have found they have not
a clue to the Toasted Western ....so....from the very area where
I first experienced it...it now is gone.    I also found out
that the very restaurant I used to get the bulk of them in 
North Toronto is now under new ownership and they haven't a
clue ....and of course the business nearby that introduced them
to me, as they ordered their quick snacks in....well employees
have changed and they have a snack truck with ...things on it
seemingly over warmed and ...no westerns.

Thats OK ....  memorys ....and today lately after a long time
I did get to try  Deep Fried Turkey in that caldron of boiling
cooking oil, fed by a burner underneath .....Turkey nicely done
in 45 minutes...and tasting ok.

Not too thrilled with the clean up afterwards ...to this method
so I will cook my dead birds in the oven for a few hours and
with my stuffings etc ....

and thanks for doing the research for me.   The origins are 
interesting too.
