Hi Hap,

-> OK, I've had to slow down a lot with it the last few years. When I broke
-> my elbow, I damaged one of the nerves in my middle finger so it "droops"
-> a bit. Also makes it harder to sign some words. I know, I could switch
-> to right handed signing but both wrists are weak enough that I've pretty
-> much stopped. I'd thought of trying to become a registered interpreter
-> at one time but...............................

hn> I think Anne only has one student that
hn> is hearing impaired this year..and I *think*
 hn> he's now got the coclear implants...but I'm
hn> far from certain on that...Anne now has a
hn> device in her classroom that will "broadcast"
hn> straight to a headset that works with implants.
 hn> Gee isn't technology great!

Quite advanced, even from a few years ago. One of my room mates in
college had to go from an over the ear hearing aid to one that was
called a "body" hearing aid. That thing had more whistles on it.....
I've lost touch with her, don't know if she would be able to use an
implant now but I suspect she would have loved it back when we were
students.

-> -> hn> heeevee) from one ship to another (or to shore
-> -> hn> if needed) and was tied on one end to a "mxkeys

-> -> I've read of things like that but not ever seen it done "live".

-> hn> Not having been in the navy that might explain it!

-> Partly so. I understand that's the basic method they used to get a
-> cable across Niagara Falls for something years ago.

hn> I would not be surprised to find that
 hn> to be so!

Back in the days before helicopters and fixed wing air craft, they had
to do something to get cable lines across the Falls.

-> hn> LOTS of uses! It was VERY strong and
-> hn> durable as well, we used it over and over

-> One place I wouldn't want to use it would be to suspend a cook pot over
-> a fire. That could get a bit risky. (G)

hn> So true! We used a forked stick for that.
hn> Old scouting method. two forked sticks
hn> on either side of the fire with one straight one
hn> going between the Y forks...and one stick
hn> with forks going towards each other and
hn> hung on the cross stick with the cook pot
hn> hooked to the bottom V fork.
 hn> I hope I explained that right.

I understand the first one, sort of do the 2nd. I think with the 2nd
method, a stick would have to be lashed to the main one to get a 2nd V
fork. At least that's what I think I recall reading years ago.

-> Depends on how determined and how hungry for roast you are. I wouldn't
-> under estimate Deborah's determination if she wanted the roast bad
-> enough.

hn> If you want it bad enough anything is possible.
 hn> If I wanted a roast that badly...I'd get a stove
 hn> with an oven (grin)

If we move in with her, she said she would. Meanwhile, I used our oven
last night. I'd picked up a mix for tandoori chicken a while ago at
Fresh Market & decided to use it. It was a spice mix, basically, mixed
with white vinegar, plain yogurt and olive oil. We used skinned and
defatted breast pieces, bone in, with ribs. Had to cut slashes in the
meat, dunk it in the mix and placed in another bowl. Extra mix was
poured over it and set in the fridge for about 4-5 (directions said
1-24) hours. Then we baked it in an improvised tangine type
arraingement. We used a stoneware deep dish pie pan with a corning ware
pie plate inside that with the chicken on it. Then a stoneware bowl was
inverted over the top (stuck a thermometer programmed to go off at 171
degrees in one piece) and put it in a 350 oven. It took about an hour
but it was worth the wait. Next time I may try my own spice mix from an
Indian cook book.

-> hn> As you may have noticed, it's really a
-> hn> buyer's market out there right now!

-> I know; what I don't know is where we will be living after Steve
-> finishes seminary. Don't want to buy a house where we won't be living.

hn> Do you get to pick, or do the churches line up
hn> and pick you? Or do you get "assigned" a
 hn> position?

Steve sends his resume (and a video of him preaching, usually) to
churches looking for pastors. Then a search committee at each church
goes thru the resumes (and videos) received and makes a decision whether
or not to consider him. They would then contact him and ask him to
visit, usually over a week end. Saturday is spent meeting key personnel
during the day and the church body as a whole at a "meet, greet & eat"
(usually supper, followed by Q&A) that night. He would then preach
Sunday morning service and the congregation would vote at a called
business meeting after the service. If they vote to call him, he
decides if he will accept or not. If he does, then details are worked
out with him about salary, etc. Our church is going thru the proccess
right now & we've been members of other churches that have done so.
Since each Southern Baptist church is independent, pastors are not
assigned as they are in some denominations. Got all that? Good.
