 I started local truck driving during a strike long ago.  It paid so
 darn well I kept at it after the strike ended.  I worked a midnight
 shift, so when I got off in the morning, I would go over and pick up
 a tractor from Volpe, and they would then send me out to other trucking
 firms for a days work.  Usually that consisted of getting a trailer off
 a flat bed train and peddling whatever was in it.  But at times, some
 firms like US Trucking would stick it to us.   The reason I quit was
 first day I was sent over to Firestone with a 45 footer loaded to the
 gills with used tires.  Each one had to be thrown off by hand.  That
 was a lot of work and I went home really tired.  Then the next day I
 was sent over to Bormans food with another 45 footer.  I figured, great
 I get a nap while they unload.   I flipped open the trailer to find it
 full of cases of Flush-a-Bye diapers, large cases that is, and no dang
 pallets in sight.  That day ended my local peddling career as a truck
 driver.  :-)

 My best buddy came around a couple years later and said hey wanna make
 a few extra bucks on the weekends, White Star is looking for part
 timers.  I replied no way.  Then he said, no peddling involved, all
 down the road.  So I did that for a while.  What he didn't say was it
 was from mid November to end of December.   You know that route,
 barreling down to Youngstown and back to Cleveland, then up to Flint
 and back to Lincoln Park, three times a weekend starting on Friday
 after work.   Good money again, but snow storm's and all, kinda scary
 at times.  Sitting on that high cushion seat with my heel holding the
 accelerator to the floor while my arms were being jerked out of the
 shoulder sockets in those old Ford tractors, was to much.  I did that
 for two years and quit under doctors advice.

 When your married to a twenty dollar girl, that's how it happens.  A
 twenty dollar girl can spend twenty dollars more than you can make, no
 matter how much you make.  :-)

 This has no food reference.   Hmmmmmm.

 Winter's Best Bean Soup

 Winter's Best Bean Soup
 Cook Time: 8 hours (LOW)
 Prep Time: 15 minutes
 Yield: Makes 8 to 10 servings

 Ingredients:6 ounces bacon, diced
 10 cups chicken broth
 3 cans (about 15 ounces each) Great Northern beans, drained
 1 can (about 14 ounces) diced tomatoes, undrained
 1 large onion, chopped
 1 package (10 ounces) frozen sliced or diced carrots
 2 teaspoons bottled minced garlic
 1 fresh rosemary sprig or 1 teaspoon dried rosemary
 1 teaspoon black pepper

 Preparation:

 1. Cook bacon in medium skillet over medium-high heat until
 just cooked; drain and transfer to slow cooker. Add remaining
 ingredients.

 2. Cover; cook on LOW 8 hours or until beans are tender.
 Remove rosemary sprig and mince the leaves before serving.
