No meds standard really for it - not much agreement on it's cause or treatment
at this point (sad).. not much is really known at all except large dogs get it
(mostly).. some vets use cough preparations, or the kinds of steroid meds. or
steroid injections like asthmatics use for them but you have to find the right
vet for that.  There is surgery that is done for it, but it costs $2500-$3000
and it's done at Cornell University where they tie back one of the flaps of the
larynx so the dog can breathe.. unfortunately that also means that food can
also pass thru to the lungs :( So a number of the dogs develop pnuemonia from
aspirating food into their lungs and die.  There a number of people who don't
treat their dogs at all because of the side effects of all the above
treatments.  We tried the 'cough medicine' from the vet, but discontinued it
when it just seemed to make it worse for her (kind of like pertussin). The
surgery is way out of our reach.. way way out of our reach.. Our vet doesn't
want to use steroids until she's lost some weight.. I don't want to see her on
them period.. I know what they do to me but I bet they'll make her feel great
for a little while at least so maybe if she loses some weight they reduce the
inflamation enough so it won't be so bad.. the larynx gets inflamed after
awhile so steroids would help that.

Yes, that's my take.. his too.. He did want to see her again if the vertigo
didn't go away after she finished the antivert pills, but it does seem to have
stopped finally (thank goodness).. I'm watching her for any signs of "tilt"..
her head slants to the left when it starts, and she rocks her head from side to
side.. she can't stand up either.. thankfully all of those symptoms are gone
now.  Her balance is much better almost back to normal. Boy, so relieved.. :)

===Diner Rice Pudding===
This is an old fashioned great rice-pudding :)

1 1/2 cups long grain rice, uncooked 2 quarts whole milk
1 1/2 cups sugar (or less to taste) 1 Tablespoon vanilla extract
pinch of salt
Nutmeg

Place all ingredients except for nutmeg in a heavy pot.  Turn heat to high just
long enough to bring mixture to a boil.  Reduce heat to low immediately and
cover tightly.  Allow to simmer for about an hour or until the rice is soft,
adding more milk if necessary. Remove from heat and cool. When at room
temperature, sprinkle nutmeg all over the top, and refrigerate.
