I am at least considering a generator.

The new water lines have 2.5 times as much insulation as the old
ones did so they should be able to handle longer power outages than
before.

I WILL remember to alternate valves and bleed each water line every
10 minutes!

There is a "T" in the inlet line with one branch going to the circ
pump and the outlet line and the other to the water meter. I do not
pay for the water that goes back to the city mains, as it does not
go through the meter.

If I had a 200 L drum I might have! If I'm ever faced with this
situation again I will find one.

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.06
 
      Title: Easy Onion Soup with Stilton
 Categories: Soups, Beef, Onion, British, Cheese
      Yield: 1 Servings
 
      1 oz Butter per person
      2 md Onions per person; chopped
           Salt
           Black pepper; freshly
           Ground
    1/2 pt Each beer and stock
           Fresh thyme or winter
           Savory
           Stilton
           Croutons
 
  In a heavy saucepan heat the butter and saute the onions slowly until
  golden brown. Season with salt and pepper.
  
  Add the liquid and bring to a boil. Adjust the seasoning and add
  thyme. Cover and simmer for 30 to 40 minutes.
  
  If you are using Stilton rind, grate it finely. Otherwise, chop the
  cheese. Add it half way through the cooking and stir well.
  
  Serve with croutons.
