=====================
Hi Peter,

RH> That's not a problem; I'm running behind thanks to my husband's Army
RH> retirement plans. He will be attending seminary in North Carolina so

PC> When I retired, it was due to really wanting to, but the extreme
PC> problems of pills, 3 or 4 specialists, and a long way back after
PC> a major cancer operation, which loss me a kidney.

Sounds like it was not a fun time. I got off light compared to you.

RH> No, it doesn't let you out. We can all learn from you, maybe changing
RH> our diet for the better. Steve and I are the ones here into whole
RH> grains (brown rice, whole wheat bread & pasta, etc)--sort of

PC> When I cook here, it is usually done hospital style whenever
PC> so as steamed egg in a fry pan with only water, so it looks good
PC> to me. Silly but true.

That's all that matters some days. Then there are other days when you
might reach for parsley to add a garnish or do egg in the eye (egg
cooked in a circle cut out of a slice of bread) instead. I know both
feelings--my biggest bug a bear was and still is fatigue.

PC> My first trip into Brasil, was done with , as suggested, open
PC> eyes, ears and mind ....worked wonderfully as I wandered through
PC> the none tourist areas and met real people. Also less banditos.

RH> I've seen that in just about every place we've lived to some extent.
RH> It's more obvious in places like Hawaii where most tourists don't get
RH> past Waikiki in Oahu. Just a street or two in back of the main beach
RH> front one it's a totally different picture of Honolulu.

PC> Yes, you have experienced it then, so nothing to shatter your image
PC> and Jamacia is the same.

I've never been to Jamacia and would probably look at it with a
different eye than the average tourist.

RH> You will have to post some of your wife's recipies (or get her
RH> involved). I understand on the medical tests; it seems like every
RH> doctor wants to "verify" and has the same tests done that the last
 RH> doctor did.

PC> OK, they need translated, but I will let her know on my next
PC> communications pass and we have a chance to chat. As mentioned

Sounds good; we all enjoy reading new recipes.

PC> before, and all my meds, when the 4 specialists get me, it is usually
PC> hey what happened ...go back to where you were.

Such fun and joy! (G)

PC> Not all the tests are the same, as each has his field or interest
PC> and office visits, are sometimes examinations, which verify by the
PC> score I am thinking of moving to south America.

I see. It can be very frustrating, can't it?

RH> Some break thrus will be made but I don't think there will ever be a
RH> complete eradication of cancer. It's too easily mutated into various
RH> forms to ever guarantee a full cure.

PC> Yes, I still go out for the Cancer events even donning skates and
PC> attempting to play hockey as in days of yor, but while the game plan
 PC> kicks in
PC> I lack the offensive power, and all I have left is the playmaking
PC> sense to slow a game down to organize, but I have lost 90% of the

The mind wants to go full steam ahead but the body puts on the brakes
almost as soon as you skate out? I know the feeling.

PC> I pull myself...and now no more, even if it was only done to show
PC> my wife what she read about me, and she could say she saw me play
PC> and skate. Banned from skates by the medical folks.

Same as Steve never saw me on anything but cross country skis, not
downhill, which I had to give up (among other things). I've got metal
in both wrists and the left elbow.

PC> I know it will be never beaten, and I know next time, I am going to
PC> feel worse then how I feel now, and that to me, has meant life
 PC> not worth living.

I try to look for at least a bit of a bright spot. Even a real "downer"
has one or two. Besides, I have other ways to keep going.

RH> As for chocolate, your wife is
RH> pretty well like most women. It seems women like it more than (most)
RH> men. Does she like the dark better than milk or vice versa? I like it
RH> really dark, sometimes with a touch of mint. The "white chocolate"
RH> isn't really chocolate IMO and milk chocolate is on the edge of being
 RH> considered "real" chocolate. (G)

PC> My wife likes to collect and make her own choclate, as also the forms
PC> to make the easter eggs. unfortunately, and I wish not to offend her
PC> I accept them ..but let her finish them off. Dark chocolate is her
 PC> thing.

It sounds like she would fit in quite well here. At last year's picnic,
Michael brought some different chocolates, including some with hot
pepper and one with bacon in them.

RH> He's a sweet guy; we met in January, 1972 & got married in September,
RH> 1975 without really seeing much of each other and not really dating
RH> between. He proposed just before taking me for a seafood meal in
RH> North Carolina. (G) We have 2 grown daughters and 2 grand children.

PC> I think this way about Maria.

Why am I not surprised? (G)

RH> I've not had problems with that, cancer related. I've had enough
RH> broken bones (some quite severely) that tend to keep me awake. During
RH> the day I try to keep busy enough so I don't notice the pain; at night,
RH> when I'm trying to relax & sleep, it hits me.

PC> My first pains were hockey related, and the number of games played
PC> and then the finals and on to upper levels and into Internationals.
PC> Now they are all coming back to haunt me, but I don't complain as
PC> those who inflicted those injurys were taken care of.

RH> The lack of humidity in the Middle East or the sand baking your bones?
