ML>> I log in direct to the offline mail and have limited
ML>> experience with the rest of the board, but thanks for
ML>> the tip. Is the non-reset pointer thing the default,
ML>> or does one have to do something special?
NB>> Ah. I thought you might. The non-reset-pointer is apparently the
NB>> default, as I did nothing to configure it that way. And the asking if
NB>> you want to check for your mail, apparently also is the default,

ML> On both Doc's and FidoTel, the pointers get reset, so I

I wonder if we are talking exactly the same thing here. If you are
reading ALL the new mail, the pointers would get reset. But, if
instead, you are just reading new mail addressed to you, when the option
is offered during the login process, the pointers are not reset. I've
read just my personal mail on both Doc's and FidoTel, and not had the
pointers reset... but again, that was during the login process when the
opportunity was offered.

ML> assumed that it was true for Sean's. Thanks for letting
ML> me know - now I might use Sean's more to check my mail
ML> flow, though I'm used to Doc's for years and years, and
ML> the FidoTel format is quite convenient for a quick scan.

Another comment, if you are reading messages FROM you, that would
undoubtedly reset the last-read pointer... as that isn't one of the
login options... I generally look at the list of messages TO me on the
Wildcat boards, as a check that messages are flowing properly everwhere,
but only read them on the boards where I'm not shown a listing (and
sometimes not even then, if I at least see how many are waiting there).
I save the real reading for when I am offline, as I grab all the
messages in packets from each bbs.

ML> I never read that stuff and besides playing a game or two
ML> have not been a real participant in the local communities
ML> (which have shrunk toward nothingness anyhow). I figure if
ML> there's anything important going on on the board, there
ML> will be a message in my inbox about it.

That's usually the case, admittedly... but, given how long it sometimes
takes for me to actually read the packets, I do like to see the
announcements if something important is afoot... :)

ML>> rib bone from an old injury that floats in and out of view.
ML>> Apparently it has nothing to do with the cancer at all.
NB>> How odd! Good news from the cancer standpoint, though... :) Are the
NB>> docs likely to do anything about it, or isn't it really a concern,
 NB>> then?

ML> Other than that it caused a false reading on the first
ML> CAT scan, it hasn't caused any trouble in years, so I
ML> doubt that anything is going to be done. Save his energy
ML> for real issues, you know. By the way, the bit of rib

Makes sense.

ML> bone is sort of semi-attached and flapping about, which
ML> is why it showed as absent and then of varying sizes
ML> depending on its position when any particular scan was
 ML> taken.

As does that, in an odd sort of way... :) Good to know what it is, and
that it IS dismissable... :)
