SD> Uhm, yes, I know the difference. If you re-read what I wrote (about
SD> upgrading your antenna) to the right wavelength...because that's where
SD> all of the OTA channels are going now (UHF) since the old VHF band is

I only had one channel in the VHF range around here, anyway. Of course it was
my main PBS outlet ... and I had an antenna that was cut specifically for that
frequency. Now they are deep fringe enough (given UHF ranges) that I may have
to get a really fancy UHF yagi to pull them in.

DD> BTW - the HD-8800 antenna is the old PD-8800 renamed (but not
DD> otherwise changed) which is the old KU-8800. I sold a ton of those
DD> (and its little brother the KU-4400) when we ran the satellite shop.

SD> I've just a little Dish TV Ku/Ka band 1.2m dish in the backyard with a
SD> triple LNB. I'm wondering if I could use that spare LNB (I use just
SD> two out of three) for something. <G> I'd like to get a good ol' C-band
SD> antenna, plop it in the backyard on a rotor as I have excellent views
SD> in all directions for a clear horizon and get a new DVB with Digicipher
SD> in it so I can get all the weird FTA stuff listed on Lyngsat or
SD> FTAList. Sure, I get 200 channels through Dish, but sometimes, there's
SD> just nothing else interesting on. <G>

There are a lot of freebies on the big dish - but, the owners of this trailer
park just barely tolerate antenna towers. Besides my "look" at the southwest
sky (where most of the interesting satellites hang out) is tree fu ... whipped.

And a lot of former "C-band" stuff is now up on Ku or Ka band - even if it is
in the clear and not encrypted.

      Title: Orange-Glazed Sweet Potatoes
 Categories: Potatoes, Citrus, Nuts
      Yield: 6 servings

4 md Sweet potatoes; baked *
    1/4 ts Salt
1/2 c Firmly packed brown sugar
      1 tb Cornstarch
      1 c Orange juice
    1/4 c Raisins
    1/4 c Butter
    1/4 c Chopped pecans
3 tb Dry sherry (not cooking
           - sherry)

Preheat oven to 350°F. Lightly spray a 9x13-inch baking dish with
  cooking spray.

As soon as the sweet potatoes are cool enough to handle, peel and
quarter them and place in the baking dish. Sprinkle with salt.

Combine the brown sugar and cornstarch in a small saucepan. Stir in
the orange juice and raisins. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to
medium. Cook, stirring constantly, until thickened. Add the butter,
pecans and sherry, and stir until butter is melted.

Pour glaze over sweet potatoes. Bake, uncovered, for 20 minutes.
  Makes 6 servings.

  * Note: Sweet potatoes can be boiled, roasted and fried, but for this
recipe the texture is better when they are baked. Also, they are very
easy to peel when baked. To bake, wash them well and poke several
holes in the skin with a fork. Place on a pan in a 375°F oven, and
cook until fork tender, about 45 minutes. You can save some time by
baking them in the microwave for 5 or 6 minutes, or until they are
easily pierced with a fork, but the texture is slightly different
and, to my mind, not quite as good. The better time-saving option is
to oven bake them a day or two before, let them cool, then
refrigerate until a few hours before starting this recipe, so they
can come up to room temperature.
