 I agree, and that is one of the major reasons I have for crossing the
 border often here.   Love the stuff.  It is nothing but a pork loin
 but not cured in an acceptable way.  Funny part is you can mail order
 it from a Detroit concern that brings it across the bridge.

 Laws often aren't based on reality but protection of going concerns.
 Some like food laws though are good as they keep the populace from
 eating mad cow parts that some guy shot in hallabalo wherever.

 Not just the dollar scale Jim.  Organic food requires much more land
 to grow the same crop.   With our backyard gardens we can get a few
 tomatoes from our small plots, but the commercial tomato farmer where
 I buy mine produces ten times the amount of tomatoes I get from the
 same size piece of dirt.  And mine are not organically grown either
 for I use pesticides to keep the bugs off them and chemicals in the
 soil to grow better plants with less waste.

 OK, Accept that I bought a Butterball turkey one year and it was so
 full of preservatives it couldn't be eaten.  I still have the letter
 from Con-Agra who apologized, made an excuse and sent me a check for
 double it's cost.

 However the Agra business is that. A business of feeding the people.
 Those pictures you see on TV where huge machines running side by side
 are harvesting thousands of acres of winter wheat fast enough to get
 in the summer crop for the rest of the year has a lot to do with the
 cost of flour used in every meal you make.  Big machines planting and
 harvesting the biologically modified corn the French are upset about,
 are the reason you can buy pork at a fraction of what it would cost if
 pigs were scarcer because farmers cost was higher for feed.  Most corn
 doesn't end up on the ear and our plates, or in the cornmeal we make
 our cornbread from, but in the bellies of the animals we eat.

 Face it humanity has been so successful in the bedrooms we now have
 less and less space to create feed for ourselves.  And as we decide
 to convert our feed to fuel because of Arabic greed, I hope they are
 working on ways to grow corn in their sand.
