I know which ones I'd pick. They sound like Aji (bird) chilies or Thai Ratshit
peppers (which aren't too big). Are they round or tapered?

We used to have street vendors here ... on the town square across from our Old
State Capitol historic site where they competed quite successfully with
sit-down venues. Of course the sit-down places complained. But, they were told
"Raise your game". So, the business owners lobbied to subsume the city health
department into the county health department as a "cost saving, efficiency
measure". County politics being *much* different from city politics the county
health department was more amenable to harassing the push cart people
throughout the downtown area. We have NO street vendors currently.   Bv(=

As I no longer work downtown the lack does not affect me in a direct fashion.
But, still, I hate it when the prigs win one.

BTW - does your beertender/vendor offer chilli for his dawgs. Nothing better
than a nice greasy hot dawg dripping red chilli oil down your arm and staining
your broadcloth dress shirt.   Bv)=

      Title: Mexican Red Rice
 Categories: Latino, Rice, Chilies
      Yield: 5 servings
 
      1 c  Uncooked rice (not
           - quick-cooking rice)
      2 tb Peanut oil or lard *
      2 cl Garlic; minced or pressed
      1 md White onion; fine chopped
      2    Ripe plum tomatoes; seeded,
           - fine chopped
      8 oz Can tomato sauce
      1 c  Chicken or beef broth
      1 tb Chilli powder
    3/4 ts Salt
 
  There are many variations of Mexican rice. I seldom make it the same
  way twice because I like to vary the basic recipe by adding one or
  more ingredients I may have on hand, like fresh corn, green peas,
  chopped carrots, green or red bell peppers, pimientos and chopped
  celery. I think you will find that the basic recipe, however, is an
  excellent side dish.
  
  Heat the oil in a heavy skillet. Add the rice and stir over
  medium-high heat until rice is golden brown. Add the garlic and
  chopped onion, and sauté until the onion just begins to brown.
  
  Add the tomatoes, tomato sauce, chicken broth, chili powder and salt,
  lower heat and cover. Simmer for 20 to 25 minutes until all liquid is
  absorbed. Remove from heat and allow to sit, covered, for 5 minutes.
  
  Fluff with a fork and serve.
  
  Makes 5 or 6 servings.
  
  * If you make your own chilli powder, or if you have access to special
  ground chilies like ground ancho or special blends available at stores
  such as Whole Foods, Mexican Rice is a wonderful dish for featuring
  it.
  
  * Olive or canola oil may be used in this recipe. The resulting dish
  will be excellent, but will have a slightly less "authentic" Tex-Mex
  character.
