Hi Janis,

JK> > Computers would give me a challenge tho. I'm more right brained and
JK> they > are geared toward left brained people.

JK> It's probably why Ron and I were able to teach ourselves as much as we
 JK> did.

As in you are very left brained? Steve is as left brained as I am right
which makes life interesting at times.

>> have two little muppets that are named just like one of my dogs, and
>> one of my cats.. the puppet characters were named first.. Toby and
>> Tina.. Toby is a dope.. Tina is a PIA.. we really HAD to name them
>> that because that is exactly the personality they have haha

JK> > (G) I named a cat Ben once because he had the same personality as
JK> the > bear on the old series "Grizzly Adams". The cat was also known
JK> as "get > out of the road, stupid cat" for obvious reasons.

 JK> Poor kitty! (G)

Poor kitty, my foot! Ever see trucks go around a cat that just won't
budge? Ths was on the road to a busy marina.

>> because they are non-threatening I think. I almost was going to do
>> degree program at the NYS's Empire college since I'd done so much
>> research on childhood morality, puppets and such. But then the time
>> wasn't right for some reason or other.

JK> > I understand. The timing wasn't right for me to go for a Master's in
JK> > Special Ed, hearing impaired emphasis either. Now I don't know if
JK> I'd go > for that or something else if I've the chance.

 JK> Yep, understand :)

The hard part is deciding what field but it would be something in the
creative arts, probably needle/thread/fabric related and probably in
design.

>> There was a dairy farm way out of town... and there was actually a
>> _dairy_ right in the village of Warwick on a little side street...

JK> > You find them like that in Europe still now.

 JK> Outrageous..

No, commonplace. Normal, everyday stuff.

>> our back door and delivered milk bottles for a long long time... Kind

JK> > We had one in the Margaretville area--got milk from them until I was
JK> in > high school at least.

JK> I think it stopped in Warwick earlier than that.. I was probably in
 JK> grade school.

Warwick is a bigger place; Margaretville does good to count 800 in a
census.

>> me is so sad. But my kids did see me growing things from
>> nothing..(g).. neither Ron's parents nor mine had a garden then :(

JK> > Good; the more kids get exposed to the way food really comes to
JK> them, > the more to carry it on for another generation. I helped my
 JK> mom can

JK> Definitely true :) The kids love helping me in the garden every
 JK> summer.

As long as they're enjoying it, encourage it. Once it gets to be forced
labor, it's not fun (speaking from experience).

JK> > when I was growing up so I had no problems doing it after Steve and
JK> I > got married. Then I taught a friend how to can tomatoes; the next
JK> day > she taught another of her friends how to do so.

JK> Super! That was one of the BIG complaints with that "bad" edition of
JK> the Joy of Cooking.. Ethan had removed the entire canning section :(
JK> I guess he heard about that (g)

Canning is so much better in so many ways than freezing--but I still
like my freezer. (G)

>> you > know once I do. Is it a 1:1 sub for sugar?

>> No, I know it's not 1:1.. taste it til it's right (laugh) Or I could
>> ask Lauren, and I'll let you know :)

JK> > That's probably the best way; we've cut back on the amount of sugar

JK> She told me this weekend that she does use it 1:1 for sugar.. and she
JK> also reminded me about diluting it with some liquid you are using in a
JK> cake before creaming with butter, etc.

Thanks, now I will give it a try.

JK> > use. What may be just sweet enough for us would not be for other
JK> > people; I don't want to make a "surprise" cake to take somewhere.

JK> It's not very sweet, to me :)

I'll give it a taste test. It may be something we do more for home use
but not for pot lucks or other, similar. We'd stay with the raw sugar
for those. (G)

JK> > You could buy separate components for the Kichen Center. We've got
JK> an > ice cream maker, pasta maker and small food proccessor that we
JK> bought > separate. That's why I sort of don't want to give it up but
JK> it doesn't > have the power of some of the newer things like KA or
 JK> Viking.

JK> Understand.. so you don't have to throw the older one out.. if you
JK> want to try a kitchen aid mixer you'll get everything you need to make
JK> bread.. and pasta dough.. you wouldn't get a pastadough cutter though
JK> unless you bought an attachment.

And I hate to have to buy everything new when I've already got all the
stuff. But, I guess I'll have to break down and do it at some point;
then the question will be KA or Viking.

>> hahaha :) You know, here's the thing.. Ron grew up with those green
>> containers.. I almost died.. (laugh).. but we, as a couple have never
>> used them

JK> > We used them, mostly for cost. I gew up on some pretty lousy store
JK> > brands of the green can; Steve's family usually (and most of them
JK> still > do) uses the green can. He said that every once in a while
 JK> his mom
JK> > would buy a chunk of parmesan (not the reggiano) and grate it
JK> herself so > he had some exposure to better parmesan. I think now she
JK> just uses the > green can.

 JK> It's a classic, that can :)

Sure is; you knew what I was referring to even tho you didn't and don't
use it.
