Doesn't every bid of every team escalate the arms race?  Why blame the
Yankees?  Sounds more like fan rancor than a righteous philosophy.

Nah, just noting [celebrating?] that even a highly economically successful
corporation, like the Yankees or the Socks, cannot unerringly buy a
pennant.

ml-> have capped our payroll at a slightly less insane level.

I guess that makes the Socks the relief team for the Yankees in the hate
game?

ml-> I really wonder about managers. What do they do? The gametime
ml-> decisions are made pretty much by the numbers these days. There
ml-> is the inspirational aspect, but some successful managers don't
ml-> seem to do much of that. 

You could say a Manager can affect the team by his manner of treating the
players.  It seems like a bunch of pissed off, resentful players aren't
going to burn up the league.  But of course players like Jim Palmer sort of
refute that.   When Shirley and I drive by an accident we wonder who and
why.  Then we say "We'll never know."  Same here.

ml->Hey, what's the local attitude towards Girardi?  A solid .500 guy?

[Chuckle]  Newark is as far from a local attitude of New York City as
Manny's home is.   'My' attitude is he seems as helpless against the
downward spiral as Torre was.   My hope is that the Yankees sloooow start
this year can turn into a good drive as in the past.   I'd sure like to see
them look at least viable in the playoffs.
