Vietnam was still known as French Indo-China when I was in Unk's Yacht Club.
The full impact of the Dulles brothers tinkering with world politics had yet to
be felt in this country.

I joined the Navy with malice aforethought. I didn't want to wear those funky
green fatigues and camp out in the wilderness as the army did at that time. I
definitely didn't want to be a gung-ho jarhead and not really a wing-wiper
either. I was more into sleeping under a roof, eating decent food and having a
chance to see the world ... even if it meant I might have to spend some time
bobbing about like a cork on the oceans of that world.

Oddly I spent my entire time in the the service (other than boot camp) in
Memphis (Millington) Tennessee. First at the NAATC, then as an Aviation
Electronics Technician in RD-45 (a Patrol & Transport Squadron) which flew
cargo and things around and did patrol duty and some (early) AWACS and weather
stuff ... which was my neat and potatoes.

The only part of the world I got to see outside the base at Millington was the
insides of a lot of Military facilities when I got to participate in an around
the world training flight in a P2V Neptune.

      Title: Vietnamese BBQ Duck Breast
 Categories: Oriental, Game, Poultry, Chilies
      Yield: 2 servings
 
      4    Duck breasts; boned, skinned
      2 tb Oil
      4 tb Vinegar
      1 cl Garlic; minced
      1    1/2" chunk ginger root;
           - crumbled
    1/2 ts Dried chilies; or more
 
  This recipe is equally good with wild duck, partridge or
  ptarmigan.
  
  Cut the breasts away from the bird and marinade at least
  two days in the other ingredients. The peppers can be
  increased up to 2 (or more) ts according to taste.

  Drain breasts and grill over charcoal/gas, brushing on
  extra marinade as required. Serve with rice.
