OK, I thought you were talking about family cooking.  We had a bakery on
Main Street (before a fire wiped most of it out in 1976) that was always
nice to walk by (or into).  Several times while in elementary school,
our class toured it. We also toured a sap house and watched sap being
converted into maple syrup. The few times my mom did home made bread
were a treat, both smelling it baking and eating the finished loaf.
We'd demolish a loaf in one sitting. (G)

I did enough of that too as a kid. The butter came from when Steve and I
bought raw milk from a local farmer in NC. That was in our days of
getting by on next to nothing income wise. We may not have had a large
income but we could eat well thanks to that milk (and butter or butter
milk, home made ice cream), the hog we'd bought and put into the
freezer, the bread I made (8 loaves at a time) etc.

I don't think as much at this school as when she was teaching in public
school. Three years ago, just before Steve and I went to the Big Island,
she asked if we could get her information about volcanoes.  We got quite
a bit and mailed her a package that she used extensively and let other
teachers borrow.  We included some Pele's tears, volcanic sand, etc in
a little plastic stacking jar set that we hot glued shut, books, DVDs,
etc.
