=====================
Hi Dale,

RH> and here, you passed Exit 90 on I-10. That's the one we'd get off on
RH> to head 30 miles south to Fort Huachuca.

DS> Exit 302 onto State Highway 90. We took that and went through Fort
DS> Huachuca to Sierra Vista and Bisbee before coming back to Tombstone.

Yes, you're right--State HWY 90, exit 302. I'm spaced out from opening
so many boxes and trying to figure out where to stow the contents. I
thought we'd jettisoned a lot of weight in Savannah; we've already lost
more in not quite 3 weeks in Wake Forest. A lot of it was no longer
needed paper work but we've got a box set aside for yard sale (or
whatever) and things to send the girls.

RH> Did you stop at the rest area in Texas Canyon to get any pictures of
RH> the rocks? We'd usually stop there, just so we could look at the rocks.
RH> (For those that don't know, it's all kind of rock formations, some
RH> balanced in seemingly impossible positions. It's one of those places
RH> that "totally awesome" doesn't even begin to describe.)

DS> Look at the sub-album labeled Dragoon in the photoshack link I posted.
DS> I believe that is what you are talking about. Those formations
DS> looked quite out of place. They occurred only for a few miles on the
 DS> exit to
DS> Dragoon and the Amerind foundation museum. All the rest of the

Without looking at your pictures, your description fits the location.

DS> surrounding area off of I-10 was pretty much non-descript brown.

"Beige" is how one visitor to our church in SV described it. Here we're
totally wrapped up in shades of green.

DS> Also take a look at the sub-album labeled Goblin Valley. Not the
 DS> same, but also wierd.

I'll take a look. There are some really interesting areas out west.

DS> Along the way, we stopped at San Xavier Mission, just south of Tucson.
DS> Then to the south east to stop at Bisbee, AZ -- a very old mining town
DS> that was once the third largest city west of the Mississippi. Next we

RH> Also home of the "Killer Bee Honey Store", as featured on Food
RH> Network as well as a big copper mining (the Lavender) pit.

DS> We saw the open pit, but not the honey store.

We've done likewise. Didn't know about the store until we saw a Food
Network "AZ Unwrapped" while we were in HI.

RH> After seeing the general area, do you see why we would like to settle
 RH> out there?

DS> We saw a lot of interesting geography, all sorts of formations in the
DS> various parks -- but none of it looked like the sort of place we'd
DS> want to live. As our grandson said "Phoenix is hot and all brown."
 DS> We
 DS> prefer the green of the Eastern seaboard:-}}

The southeastern part of the state (Cochise County) is our favorite.
Deborah lives in Queen Creek, just south of Phoenix (works at the NG
installation in Mesa). We saw the southeastern end of Phoenix really
grow over the years we lived in AZ. We'd go visit my sister in Peoria
about once a year and saw the developments creep further and further
south towards Tucson.

RH> on a budget. BTW, did you pass the cattle feed lots west of El Paso?
RH> Almost enough to make you want to give up beef--but not quite.

DS> Yes -- in fact, it was the only place we saw decent looking cows. The
DS> very few cows we saw during our coach tour in Arizona and Utah were
DS> skin and bones nibbling on tumble weed in the reservations. One of
 DS> the
DS> couples are cattle ranchers from South Dakota. They were shocked and
DS> saddened at how poorly those cows looked.

But they still produce some pretty good beef. (G) It's just how open
range cattle look compared to "farmed" cows.

Anyway, it's good to see you back. We started with Fido when we were at
Fort Huachuca so now you know some of our reference points.

Catch you later,
Ruth
