====================================================================
Hi Hap,

-> hn> the answering machine...they wanted me to call
->  hn> for an appt....and their hours were 8 am-8PM!!
->  hn> So, I called...and now I'm scheduled for the MRI

-> Good! Nice that their hours were convenient for you to call back. They
-> could have stopped accepting calls around 6 pm.

 hn> Indeed! I was happy that I didn't have to
 hn> wait until I had hours that matched the
 hn> scheduling folks!

That could be more of a pain than the knee. While we were out this
afternoon, Steve suggested I call my new doctor to see if I could get
perscription for a small amount of one of my regular meds. I'm going to
run out before I see her & the best alternative a pharmacist suggested
would probably not be effective. Got in just after 5, called and found
they closed at 5. I'll try tomorrow morning.

-> hn> on Saturday (didn't know they DID saturdays) the
->  hn> 27th (M's on the road).Then a followup with the

-> IIRC, the one at Tripler operated 24/7. The cost to bring one "up to
-> steam" is high, compared to the cost of keeping it running once it is at
-> full power.

 hn> Never had one...should be a novel
 hn> experience...most likely similar to
 hn> a CAT scan.

That's probably the best way to describe it. No special "eat" or "don't
eat" X hours before the proceedure as a general rule. I've had one MRI
but I've metal in thee region being "shot" so it was inconclusive.

-> hn> ortho doc and then surgery (most likely).

-> Most likely, but if it improves the current situation, then go for it.

 hn> Not much choice, cant really go on the
 hn> way I am..the pain is significant and
 hn> walking with a limp and a cane is no
 hn> fun! No biking and it cuts into exercise.
 hn> Which leads to more weight gain...sigh.

I know the feeling--I'm not running stairs like I was in HI and GA so I
have to watch how much I eat. It wasn't bad when we first moved in with
the unpacking but that's pretty well done...........I actually got a
small sewing project done on Saturday, first time since February I could
really have the time to sew.

-> Crash! (reality hitting) After 26 years of dealing with the military
-> medical system as the primary one, we're wading our waythru the civilian
-> system. It's an experience, believe me. (G)

 hn> Biggest thing to remember is to be
 hn> pro-active...and stand your ground
 hn> when you want/need something make

We did, we did not like the primary care doctor in town so put in a
request the next day for a change--and got it.

 hn> sure you speak up for it (and yourself)!

I will; I've several issues the first doctor just blew off.

 hn> Whenever I forget that is when I
 hn> get angry with the system...then I
 hn> remember that I have to be a big
 hn> part of my treatment and once I get
 hn> back "on track" with it I usually get
 hn> what I want and good service as well.

Definately! We did that with one doctor, especially, of mine in GA. He
wanted to use a cannon to kill a fly; we said "no way!". My surgeon
agreed with our point of view.

 hn> Right after Anne gets "out" for the summer
 hn> she heads off to Yakima (eastern side of the

Isn't that apple (and Mt. St. Helens) territory?

 hn> state) for 5 days of "mentoring academy" a
 hn> big thing for Nationally Board Certified teachers
 hn> who mentor others and are influential in making
 hn> positive changes in teaching and education.

So her influence will be in the class room long after she's retired. A
couple of weeks ago, Rachel called me to let me know that David was
asked to sit on the board of directors for Challenger Schools that sets
their philosophies. Quite an honor since he's only been with them for 3
years.

-> We brought our lunch so the class picnic was pretty much a non eventful
-> meal as far as I was concerned. The one year our class had a picnic off
-> grounds, it was at the home of one of my classmates that had a swimming
-> pool. Go figure, I had German measles and couldn't go.

 hn> Ain't that always the way it
 hn> goes? (grin)

Perfect example of the law of "go figure" IMO.

-> -> Take her out to celebrate next week end.

 hn> I'll be working at the ballpark, and
 hn> she'll be heading off to the hot eastern
 hn> side of the state....but we'll manage
 hn> some fun this summer I'm sure!

Including a trip or two to see Amanda, I'm sure.

->  hn> Don't like em...but if I need em I'll use em!!

-> You will be thankful in the long run that you did.

 hn> I have a pretty high threshold for
 hn> pain...which sometimes works to my
 hn> disadvantage as I delay seeking
 hn> treatment until it becomes so bad that
 hn> I can no longer function well.

I've got a high threshold too, but pop those pills if needs be.
Sometimes I do go too long and regret it later.

->  hn> That's so true! (grin)

-> That's what makes the echo so much fun to be a part of.

 hn> Bunch of good friends here, and we do
 hn> know how to throw a great picnic! (grin)

So we found out the last couple of years. We'll miss this year's; the
timing is wrong to make two trips to the north east so close together.
We'll be doing the final prep for Steve's classes around then.
