 They do work, and so far I would say they have no advantage.
 They hang in a pot, so like any potted plant require daily watering
 and are somewhat of a PITA to take care of.  This was mine last month.

 True, and I treated them with lime after seeing the first fruit 
 with stem rot.  My daughter gave me the whole thing, so I figured 
 she had used a potting soil with to much nitrogen in it.  A few years
 back I planted tomatoes in a spot where my compost pile used to be, 
 and I had a problem with them, so had lime on hand.  
 
 My first two tomatoes were picked yesterday with no stem rot. 
 I'm starting to think that maybe I have been over watering them.
 If you look at the photo above, you'll see an orange juice container 
 butchered to make a funnel so the garden hose would squirt into the 
 top of the basket. The first week the leaves were far to dry before 
 I made that, and maybe, as usual, I've overdone it.  I have cut back 
 on the amount of water now, and while the leaves are hanging very 
 low and not looking that healthy, I did get two tomatoes.

 Normally I do that, but the local nursery has gone out of business.

 Yes I read it from your link.  Nothing I've seen here yet.
 
 I'm looking for a Stuffed Green Pepper recipe with a tomato soup and 
 bread stuffing instead of rice, and lightly flavored with sausage 
 instead of packed with meat.  Mom used to make it after the last time 
 the country was sent down the economic toilet by the same thinking as
 used by the ones who just did it again.
