That is higher than I would have hoped. Of course, culinary
excellence in the region is said to be limited to the ventures of
the famed Pierre ... and the efforts of certain talented amateurs.

One of the big topics on the frequent-traveller BBSs is the
fact that the US fast-food chains serve beer and maybe wine
abroad but not domestically. So one can nip into a McDonalds
in Germany or France and have a quick cold frosty one. I've
heard that the McD's in the Pentagon serves beer, but I know
of none other in the states that does.

Funny that some of the best pizza in New England is made by
Greeks; it tends to be quite different from the Boston/New
Haven thin-but-supple crust style. Smaller, thicker pies,
generally, with more cheese and sometimes sprinkles of garlic
on top. There are also the anomalous cracker-crust ones.

Interesting phenomenon, these kids. At least the grownups got
to have pizza.

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.06

      Title: Pomodori Con L'uva (Tomatoes with Grape Juice)
 Categories: Live!, Tomatoes, Juice
      Yield: 6 Servings

      1 sm Bunch dark grapes (about 1
           Cup)
      2 tb Balsamic vinegar, if needed
      1 c  All-purpose flour
      1 c  Yellow cornmeal
           Salt & freshly black pepper
      1 tb Finely chopped fresh
           Rosemary
      6    Firm but almost ripe
           Tomatoes, sliced 1/2-inch
           Thick
           Olive oil, as needed
      2 cl Garlic, smashed

  Puree the grapes in a blender, then strain the juices into a bowl.
  Season with balsamic vinegar if the grapes are too sweet. Combine the
  flour, cornmeal, salt, pepper, and rosemary on a plate, mixing well.
  Dip the tomato slices into the mixture, coating on both sides.

  Pour a little olive oil into a large nonstick frying pan, just enough
  to create a film on the bottom. Add the garlic and place over medium
  heat. When the oil is hot, add the tomato slices and cook, turning
  once, until golden on both sides, about 6 minutes total. Sprinkle
  with salt and pepper, and using a spatula, transfer to a serving
  plate. Pour the grape juices over hot tomatoes. Serve at once.

  Note: You can make this with unripened tomatoes, too.

  Yield: 6 servings
