Hello Everybody,

Well, it had to happen.  A food fight fight has broken out between
the Arabs and the Jews.  That's right.  A full-fledged food fight.

Over 300 Lebanese chefs have gone to war against Israel.
I am not making this up.  What did they do?  The chefs concocted
a massive plate of hummus weighing over two tons, breaking the
world record previously held by Israel.

"Come and fight for your bite, you know you're right!" has become
the slogan for these patriotic Lebanese chefs.  You see, hummus is
a Lebanese dish, not Israeli.  Every Arab knows this to be true.

"Lebanon is trying to win a battle against Israel by registering this
new Guinness World Record and telling the whole world that hummus is a
Lebanese product, its part of our traditions." - Fady Jreissati, vice
president of operations at International Fairs and Promotions group,
the organizer of the event

This is an uphill battle for Lebanon.  A real uphill battle.
Israelis love hummus.  So much so that Israel is trying to market
its own version worldwide.  Lebanese chefs are trying their best
to remind the world that hummus is not Israeli.  Unnerstan'?

"If we don't tell Israel that enough is enough, and we don't remind
the world that it's not true that hummus is an Israeli traditional dish,
they [Israelis] will keep on marketing it as their own," said Lebanese
chef Abboud.

So there you have it.  Lebanese chefs are at war.  And not just
with hummus.  Next on their list is to break another world record,
preparing a huge dish of tabbouleh (another Lebanese creation).

Hummus

2,976 pounds of mashed chickpeas
106 gallons of lemon juice
57 pounds of salt
Sesame paste
Olive oil
Garlic

Mix all ingredients together in huge pot.
