Ärende: veggies in the fridge
=============================
Hiya Nancy!
->
-> hn> Yep, bed it was meant to be! Now I can
-> hn> get out of bed without the cane, though
-> hn> still have to do it carefully!
->
-> Progress...  :)
->
Slow, but steady!

-> -> hn> I'm doing ok, the pain is there, but
-> -> hn> tolerable, and preferred to the
->  ->  hn> woozy-ness of the drugs. I've got a
-> -> hn> combo of vicodin and oxycontin, both
->  ->  hn> pretty strong...I don't like em much.
-> -> Don't blame you. Woozy isn't fun. I'd have to be in a lot of
-> -> pain to be willing to risk the woozy... ;)
->  ->
-> hn> Yep, I don't care for woozy very much!
->
-> Me neither. Take the edge off the pain, maybe a slight haze, but
-> not the real woozy... :)
->
Had to get up last night and take
two pain pills, my knee woke me at
11:30 pm with stabbing pain...got up
took meds...walked around for about
10 minutes then went back to bed...woke
again at 7 am!

-> -> hn> never easy, but she was so busy
-> -> hn> taking care of him in the end that
-> -> hn> she couldn't spare the time for herself.
-> -> hn> Now that the initial grief is passed and
-> -> hn> she's dealing with the issues of continuing
-> -> hn> on, she's doing quite well, better than
->  ->  hn> most thought she would.
-> -> I've seen that happen a lot. When the caretaking spouse has had
-> -> to put his/her own interests totally on the shelf to care for the
-> -> ailing spouse, there is something to help get through the grieving
-> -> process, a life to pick up again afterwards. My mom is the same
-> -> way, doing much better than expected given how very wrapped up in
-> -> each other they had been... from the very start, she was picking
-> -> up things she'd had to let go, and seeing reason to go on living.
->  ->
Just the same for my mom, she's got a "laundry list"
of things she wants to get done and she's just started
in on them.

-> hn> As in many cases (I suspect) my dad's
-> hn> deterioration changed him from the
->  hn> person we knew...he "left" long
-> hn> before the shell passed away. For the
->
-> The long drawn-out cases are indeed often like that... or at
-> least with a large part of the person we knew no longer there
-> really. The grieving process often starts early then, too.
->
yep

-> hn> most part, the only person who really
-> hn> saw my dad up till the end was my mom.
->
-> So she would have seen the bulk of the changes, and known that
-> wasn't to be around much longer...
->
-> Mommy hardly left Daddy's side at all that last year
-> of his life... but most of us kids saw a fair bit of him right
-> along, to the end. My sister and her family, living essentially
-> in the same house, saw him daily, thoughout the day and night,
-> and shared in his care.
->
In some ways that's harder and in some
ways much easier.

-> -> Hmmm... got to the end of the message, and still haven't seen
-> -> anything about eggplant... (G) I saw some very nice looking
-> -> Chinese eggplants at Lee's Oriental Foods yesterday, though...
-> -> didn't buy any since I couldn't think of what I'd use them for
-> -> quickly enough, given the schedules for the next week or so. I'm
-> -> trying to not buy things that will just spoil in the fridge while
->  -> I don't get to them fast enough... ;)
->  ->
-> hn> I try to not let that happen either!
->  hn> Still, sometimes it's unavoidable.
->
-> I'm learning to think before buying... (G) And to try
-> to buy the rest of what I'd need for whatever at about
-> the same time...  :)
->
I essentially plan all the meals for the week
then shop for that list. If something comes up
I always have "quickies" for alternates, but
then I have to use the "regular" menu items
in some way.

-> hn> I try to plan my meals for the
-> hn> entire week, but if somthing
-> hn> comes up along the way and one
-> hn> meal gets "zapped" I try to use
-> hn> the ingredients on the weekend.
-> hn> Most of the time I am successful and
-> hn> we do our best not to let things
->  hn> go to waste.
->
-> I used to actively plan meals for the week, but lately
-> there's been just too much uncertainty of what might be
-> happening in any week to do much more than get enough
-> hopefully for the meals if the week doesn't get too
-> weird... and get stuff that I can toss into the freezer
-> for later if the week gets out of hand. It's mostly the
-> fresh fruits and veggies that I discover later, too far
-> gone for redemption... And it's not for not liking them,
-> it's just because they got forgotten in the melee... ;/
->
-> ttyl    neb
->
One of the good things is when I make something
I always make enough so there are leftovers. If
we need to we have those on hand for those times
when we simply don't have the opportunity to make
a meal. Right now, Anne's home sick with the H1N1
piggy plague, so all the mealplans have gone up
the chimney. Soups and easy things are the order
of the day till she's back on her feet. I may make
some of the "regular" meals and freeze what I don't
eat.
chat with you soon!
