Ärende: Re: veggies in the fridge
=================================
Hiya Nancy!
->
-> HN> Had to get up last night and take
-> HN> two pain pills, my knee woke me at
->  HN> 11:30 pm with stabbing pain...got up
->  HN> took meds...walked around for about
->  HN> 10 minutes then went back to bed...woke
->  HN> again at 7 am!
->
-> That's what you get for overdoing... but at least you had
-> the pain pills to help out. Putting oneself back to sleep
-> is the proper use... (G)
->
I'm getting better, most of the time.
Still there are moments when the knee
lets me know it will be six months to
healing...just like the Dr said. (grin)

-> -> -> each other they had been... from the very start, she was picking
-> -> -> up things she'd had to let go, and seeing reason to go on
living.
->  ->  ->
-> HN> Just the same for my mom, she's got a "laundry list"
-> HN> of things she wants to get done and she's just started
->  HN> in on them.
->
-> Gives her something to keep her busy and integrated.. the loss
-> doesn't go away, but isn't front and center... :)
->
As you say. It gives her something to focus
on and a reason to get out of bed in the
mornings. She doesn't get to sit and
just feel bad about things. She's a
pretty tough old bird, a cancer
survivor and has a will of iron.

-> -> hn> most part, the only person who really
-> -> hn> saw my dad up till the end was my mom.
-> -> So she would have seen the bulk of the changes, and known that
-> -> wasn't to be around much longer...
-> -> Mommy hardly left Daddy's side at all that last year
-> -> of his life... but most of us kids saw a fair bit of him right
-> -> along, to the end. My sister and her family, living essentially
-> -> in the same house, saw him daily, thoughout the day and night,
-> -> and shared in his care.
->  ->
-> HN> In some ways that's harder and in some
->  HN> ways much easier.
->
-> Exactly. Both in the level of care and the day-to-day
-> constant reminder of the deterioration it's very hard...
-> but the net result is that it becomes easier to let them
-> go when the time comes. And there is usually no kidding
-> oneself that just given time, everything will go (or would
-> have gone) back to normal.
->
It's easy to delude oneself if
one is so inclined. I never was.

-> -> I'm learning to think before buying... (G) And to try
-> -> to buy the rest of what I'd need for whatever at about
->  -> the same time...  :)
->  ->
-> HN> I essentially plan all the meals for the week
-> HN> then shop for that list. If something comes up
->
-> I'm more likely to do that for the week of "camping" with
-> my family... and even then, I often overplan and bring
-> things home.
->
Since I am retired now, it's easier for
me to keep up with that method. And
when I use the crock pot at least once
a week, it makes it easier as well.

-> HN> I always have "quickies" for alternates, but
-> HN> then I have to use the "regular" menu items
->  HN> in some way.
->
-> Ever since Richard was working strange schedules (2005 and
-> on), quickies have been more the norm than the exception
-> around here, sad to say. As his schedule got more regular
-> with his present job, mine got more crazy with the people
-> I'm taking care of... "Regular" cooking has gone by the
-> wayside except for the odd time here and there, or planned
-> for specially like St paddy's day or T-day... hence:

I've always worked a strange schedule for most
of our 36 (almost 37!!) years of marriage. And I've
always done most of the cooking and shopping.
Often our menu won't be as varied as I'd like
but I have several dishes that are standards
and I make enough to keep leftovers either in
the fridge or freezer for those times when
making a "dinner" just ain't gonna happen!
I find it easier than just wandering the
aisles at the grocery store and wondering
what I'm gonna make.

-> -> I used to actively plan meals for the week, but lately
-> -> there's been just too much uncertainty of what might be
-> -> happening in any week to do much more than get enough
-> -> hopefully for the meals if the week doesn't get too
-> -> weird... and get stuff that I can toss into the freezer
-> -> for later if the week gets out of hand. It's mostly the
-> -> fresh fruits and veggies that I discover later, too far
-> -> gone for redemption... And it's not for not liking them,
-> -> it's just because they got forgotten in the melee... ;/
->
That happens with me as well, and when it does
I try and make some sort of stew in the crock.
Everything basically gets tossed in and used.

-> HN> One of the good things is when I make something
-> HN> I always make enough so there are leftovers. If
-> HN> we need to we have those on hand for those times
-> HN> when we simply don't have the opportunity to make
->  HN> a meal.
->
-> I'd be glad for those days to return here... (G) That is,
-> for cooking to be the norm, not the exception... :) Most
-> days now we simply don't have the opportunity (good way to
-> put it...)_
->
I can almost always take 10-15 minutes in
the morning to load the crockpot and turn
it on. I'll try to do any big chopping
and knife work the night before and have
it ready to just get tossed in. Usually it
never takes more than 10 minutes from the time
I start until I turn on the crock and walk
away.

-> HN> Right now, Anne's home sick with the H1N1 piggy
-> HN> plague, so all the mealplans have gone up the
-> HN> chimney. Soups and easy things are the order of the
-> HN> day till she's back on her feet. I may make some of
-> HN> the "regular" meals and freeze what I don't eat.
->
-> Hope she gets better soon. Good thing you can take care of
-> her now... :) Lots of love and fluids and chicken soup
-> should get her on her feet soon... :)
->
-> ttyl       neb
->
She's saying she's feeling back to normal
today, the tami-flu really seemed to take
most of the discomfort (and symptoms) to a
very manageable level. She knew she had
the flu but didn't spend the week in
agony. That tami-flu is some good stuff!
chat with you soon!
