=================================
Hey Nancy!
->
-> HN> I'm getting better, most of the time.
-> HN> Still there are moments when the knee
-> HN> lets me know it will be six months to
-> HN> healing...just like the Dr said. (grin)
->
-> It'll do that. Glad you are getting better.. :)
->
Well, that's over with, knee is hurting plenty right
now. Anne went back to work on Monday...and
blew her back out...so now I'm helping her move
when she HAS to, and it's been sorta rough on
 the knee...

-> -> -> I'm learning to think before buying... (G) And to try
-> -> -> to buy the rest of what I'd need for whatever at about
->  ->  -> the same time...  :)
-> -> HN> I essentially plan all the meals for the week
-> -> HN> then shop for that list. If something comes up
-> -> I'm more likely to do that for the week of "camping" with
-> -> my family... and even then, I often overplan and bring
->  -> things home.
->  ->
-> HN> Since I am retired now, it's easier for
-> HN> me to keep up with that method. And
-> HN> when I use the crock pot at least once
-> HN> a week, it makes it easier as well.
->
-> Well, yes, I can see where you'd have the luxury of
-> planning. :) And how planning can keep things from
-> getting out of control, theoretically. ;)
->
I worked graveyard shift before I
retired, and that gave me the opportunity
to do the shopping and cooking, so that
was what I did.

-> HN> I've always worked a strange schedule for most
->  HN> of our 36 (almost 37!!) years of marriage. And I've
-> HN> always done most of the cooking and shopping.
->
-> I've done most of the cooking, but for much of the time,
-> we've done the shopping together.
->
Anne comes home from work (most
of the time late) exhausted and I'd
not ask her to head back out and do
the groceries...it would not be smart!

-> HN> Often our menu won't be as varied as I'd like
-> HN> but I have several dishes that are standards
-> HN> and I make enough to keep leftovers either in
-> HN> the fridge or freezer for those times when
->  HN> making a "dinner" just ain't gonna happen!
-> HN> I find it easier than just wandering the
-> HN> aisles at the grocery store and wondering
->  HN> what I'm gonna make.
->
-> Granted, I look for inspiration at the store... but I also
-> don't wander the aisles wondering what I'm going to make.
-> If it doesn't show up quickly, I just try to get what will
-> probably be enough for the week or so... and, at the moment,
-> granted also, some of that is going to be prepared, or semi
-> so...
->
I will spend time browsing my cookbooks,
but I seldom look for inspiration at the store!
Most of what you see there is prepackaged
garbage anyway. I'd rather make a meal from
scratch with good ingredients than a prepackaged
one from the store.

-> -> -> for later if the week gets out of hand. It's mostly the
-> -> -> fresh fruits and veggies that I discover later, too far
-> -> -> gone for redemption... And it's not for not liking them,
-> -> -> it's just because they got forgotten in the melee... ;/
->  ->
-> HN> That happens with me as well, and when it does
-> HN> I try and make some sort of stew in the crock.
-> HN> Everything basically gets tossed in and used.
->
-> I used to use a slow cooker, but that was back in the day
-> when our life was slower, too, and I could think about
-> what I was going to be fixing. I don't think I've ever
-> had a modern crockpot, and never really did a lot even
-> with what I had. Maybe someday... :)
->
-> HN> I can almost always take 10-15 minutes in
-> HN> the morning to load the crockpot and turn
-> HN> it on. I'll try to do any big chopping
-> HN> and knife work the night before and have
-> HN> it ready to just get tossed in. Usually it
-> HN> never takes more than 10 minutes from the time
-> HN> I start until I turn on the crock and walk away.
->
-> Sounds so easy when you and the others talk about it...
-> but my reality doesn't click with it... ;0 For me it's
-> like the proverbial "only takes 10 minutes"s that all
-> add up to more time than I have, so something gets short
-> shrift...  :)
->
it IS easy, once you get the idea
and put it into practice. I can do the
knfe work in advance and spend less
than 5 minutes loading up the crock
in the morning. From then on it's just
turn it on and forget it until the evening
when you're ready to eat!

->  ->  HN> Right now, Anne's home sick with the H1N1 piggy
-> -> HN> plague, so all the mealplans have gone up the
-> -> HN> chimney. Soups and easy things are the order of the
-> -> HN> day till she's back on her feet. I may make some of
->  ->  HN> the "regular" meals and freeze what I don't eat.
-> -> Hope she gets better soon. Good thing you can take care of
-> -> her now... :) Lots of love and fluids and chicken soup
-> -> should get her on her feet soon... :)
->  ->
->  HN> She's saying she's feeling back to normal
-> HN> today, the tami-flu really seemed to take
-> HN> most of the discomfort (and symptoms) to a
-> HN> very manageable level. She knew she had
-> HN> the flu but didn't spend the week in
-> HN> agony. That tami-flu is some good stuff!
->
As you saw above, she's back home again.
Now it's the back...the Dr said it's pretty
common to see, being laid up with the flu
makes the muscles "weak" and when she
went back to school she did what for her
was "normal" but for her weakend back it
was simply too much!

-> I'm glad for her. The tami-flu stuff did well by my mom some
-> years ago, too... :) I've not to date had the chance to try
-> it... when I got the flu, my then doctor didn't think I needed
-> it, and wouldn't think of prescribing it unless I came in to
-> be seen, which I was WAY too sick to do...
->
Worked wonders for Anne!
chat with you soon!
