Ärende: Shipp's visit #3

Monday

I got Anne off to school with no problems.
When Dale called I went and picked the 
two of them up for our day's explorations.
First we went to my studio, where they saw
my crowded little space and lots of my "learning"
paintings. We had a good visit there and 
they got to see what my studio mates were 
doing as well as my stuff. After that we went 
to Commencement Bay Coffee company another
of my favorite WiFi coffee houses and discussed
our next move. After a bit we decided that they
needed another sample of Crispy beef Burritos so
we headed to the nearest Taco Time (a bit better
than taco bell) and got some more of those goodies.
Everything gets improved by frying...and the burritos
are a great example of that! 
After our snack we headed off to the Brown 
and Haley "outlet" store right next to the factory
and got a few samples of Almond Roca and some
other goodies. The counterperson was a bit OCD and 
a little snippy too. From there we headed out to
one of our local Vietnamese markets where we
looked and marvelled at the strange and wonderous
things that one can find in such stores...good prices
on chicken livers, gizzards, and hearts though...and 
LOTS of fresh fish. And while they DID have fresh
Durian in stock....we did not get any, echo traditions
notwithstanding!! After the visit to the very asian 
feeling Viet Market, we headed out to the much 
larger and much more corporate feeling PAL DO WORLD
market which is primarily Korean oriented. It's much
larger and the selections were as usual amazing.
The curries we had paid $3.49 for at the Viet 
Market were on sale for $1.99 at Pal Do!! The
produce and fish markets there are HUGE...and
there are lots of choices of live fish as well as
clams,oysters, mussels, and such. By the time
were were just about to leave Pal Do World, Annie
called and let us know she was home from school...so
we went and collected her and headed off to 
PORTER'S BBQ (another echo standby) for dinner. 
Now at the first Northwet Crabfest, we dined at
Porters at the location near my home. That 
location has since closed and for a couple of 
years there was NO Porters available outside
their catering business...then Mr Porter got a bit
lonely for converstation and re-opened a "public
restaurant" again at the same location as his
catering kitchen...however he does not advertise
that fact. Other than a sign that says "Live Jazz
Saturday Night" hanging on the deck. So most of
the patrons are folks who know Mr Porter or were
former patrons...the result of that is very good 
prices, very large portions and a very very 
friendly atmosphere. During the day we had 
run into Mr Porter and we were hoping that we'd
be able to visit with him at dinner but that didn't
happen. So we had a nice LARGE dinner and Anne
and I ended up with a LOT of the leftovers since
not one of us were able to finish our orders. 
We had Fried okra (side order), hushpuppies (side
order). Anne had Beef Briskit, Gail and I had pulled
pork Sandwiches, and Dale had a bowl of Jambalaya
(or was it the gumbo??) and a lunch portion of
pork ribs...oohhh it was goooood! We ate and chatted
until we were stuffed, put all the rest back in boxes
and Anne and I brought them home (we still have some
that we have not eaten yet!!). Since Anne had to work
on Tuesday and the Shipps had an early schedule as well
we dropped them off and made our goodbye's. While it was
a short visit, it was busy, and we had a great time with
Dale and Gail, who make marvelous guests anytime!!
And THAT was a great visit!
