=================
Hi Michael,

ML> b. 398 made it to FidoTel; I don't know why it might not have
ML> made it elsewhere. But that's one of the reasons I keep count.

I never saw it otherwise so I'll reply to this.

ML> See below for the text of it.

 ML> Area: 10
 ML> Msg#: 3 Date: 18 Nov 09
 ML> 13:56:44 From: Michael Loo
 ML> To: Ruth Haffly
 ML> Subj: simple pleasures 398

ML> You should find someone willing to host the pix on a Website.
RH> I'm not concerned with displaying the pictures for all to see. If
RH> people here want to see them, they can e-mail me and I can send them a
RH> file. Some folks have seen them at the 2008 picnic; I had a card with
RH> some on that I showed on my EeePC. But that doesn't show the latest
RH> or what's still in my imagination. (G)

ML> Right, but there are plenty of free Websites where you
ML> could make your file available subject to password or
ML> similar protection, should you so choose. As far as

You're presuming we've got the time for doing something like that. (G)
The end of the semester is fast approaching and Steve has several more
projects to turn in for various classes before then. After that, he has
to do some background work (for his class credit, my requirements aren't
out yet) before our trip. When we get back in January, we have to
finish the work for that class and prep for spring semester. Plus
church activities, keeping up on the home here, and (hopefully) getting
some sewing done........................................ That's why my
Fido gets done at some wierd hours at times.

ML> showing what's still in imagination, I always (since
ML> childhood) used to daydream about a day when one could
ML> offload ideas from one's brain to a storage device of
ML> some sort. How cool it would be to have one's imaginations
ML> capturable immediately, in no matter how crude form.

That would be nice, if modfications to the orignal project could be
easily made. The biggest part of a project is the prep work (cutting
fabric for most of mine); sometimes I think it would be nice to be able
to skip that. But, it would be like you trying to play in a concert
without practice; it just wouldn't work out well.

ML> Some of the yummiest things are cheap and easy - hash for example.
RH> My mom made hash from left over roast beef and mashed potatoes from
RH> time to time. I don't recall her doing it on a very regular basis.

ML> I make hash periodically. The secrets: lots of fat, lots of
ML> onions, and the potatoes in small enough bits.

As I recall, my mom didn't use too much onion (my dad's senitive stomach
precluded a lot of food like that when I was a kid). I think she may
have run raw potatoes thru the food grinder but don't really remember;
hash was a rare dish at our table and I've been away from home for too
many years to know for sure. I don't think she used too much fat; it
was probably from what was on the roast beef originally.

ML> 15 or so peppercorns, or to taste (Don't remove from mouth when
ML> eating soup, rather chew them up at the same time)
RH> I'd rather not bite into one--could be a rude surprise.
RH> I tie them off with a bit of kitchen twine; the food is
RH> flavored and nobody gets an unexpected surprise like a whole
 RH> pepppercorn or clove.

ML> These peppercorns have been cooked for a good long time, over
ML> six hours, and would pose no problem for teeth, dentures, or
ML> any but the most delicate of constitutions.

Even after long cooking, sometimes they still have enough of a "bite" to
be disconcerting if I bite into one. I will add coarsly ground pepper
to my bowl if I think it needs a bit more spicing.

-=> Ruth Haffly said to Hap Newsom <=-
-> Some sort of farm stand or something on those lines.
 hn> Good choice!
RH> Yes but Mom wrote that while the top carrots looked good, quite a few
RH> underneath them were rotten. She was wondering if they were last
 RH> year's carrots.

ML> No. Last year's would be shriveled up, not rotten.

Depends on the storage method; they would be shriveled up if stored in a
dry place. In a wet place they would rot.

ML> Sesame spinach salad with spicy carrots
 ML> cat: salad
 ML> servings: 4 to 6

Looks good; I might reduce the cilantro a bit. Steve is eating a bit of
it but I don't want to over do, then I'd be back to leaving it out
entirely again.

Catch you later,
Ruth
