From that description I get the idea that we are talking about two VERY
different popcorn poppers. The one I am talking about may be seen at -

The one I THINK (always dangerous, I know) you are referencing is something

although I know that there are also electric versions of it they are all very
similar in nomenclature.

On mine it was a smallish reservoir/depression above the popcorn discharge
chute with three or four (my memory of it is not clear) holes in the bottom
with would allow the melting fat to drip on the popcorn as it went down the
chute into the bowl. As it happened that idea was good in theory. In practice,
much of the butter hit the bottom of the discharge chute. The popcorn sliding
down the chute would pick up some of it. The rest dripped off of the lip of the
chute into the receiving vessel ... drenching the popcorn directly below that
lip with gobs of butter until it was saturated and then allowing the balance to
slide down the side into the bottom of the bowl. Didn't even work "sort of OK"
so I got rid of the thing to a new home and got the Stir-Crazy.

Uh, the first URL I gave above has a kettle corn maker sitting next to the
regular Stir-Crazy. Not to present a temptation or anything ....   Bv)=

      Title: Stir-Crazy Cake
 Categories: Cakes, Desserts, 
      Yield: 9 servings
 
  2 1/2 c  All-purpose flour
  1 1/2 c  Sugar
    1/2 c  Cocoa
      2 ts Soda
    1/2 ts Salt
    2/3 c  Cooking oil
      2 tb Vinegar
      1 tb Vanilla
      2 c  Cold water or coffee
    1/4 c  Sugar
    1/2 ts Cinnamon
 
  Put flour, 1 1/2 cups sugar, cocoa, soda and salt into
  an ungreased 13"x9"x2" metal baking pan. Stir with a
  fork to mix; form 3 wells in flour mixture. Pour oil
  into one well, vinegar in one and vanilla in one. Pour
  cold coffee over all ingredients and stir with fork
  until well mixed. Do not beat. Combine remaining sugar
  and cinnamon; sprinkle over batter.

  Bake in 350øF oven for 35-40 mins.
