When I have my Schauferle or Kalbshaxe I carefully scrape off
any caraway seeds I can see. The residual flavor is dilute enough
to be tolerable and perhaps even enhancing.

Many of my friends don't like tarragon. In some cases, as with
Carol Bryant, the trigger was an overdose during youth. I almost
had such a reaction when making chili (at the age of about 12) I
inadvertently knocked over a jar of the stuff into the pot, and
despite my best efforts to get every bit out, the resulting mess
tasted like tarragon and cumin together, not a match made in
heaven. But my main reaction was against my clumsiness and/or
stupidity rather than tarragon.

Double Chocolate Chip Cookies
cat: cookies
yield: 24 3" cookies

3/4 c butter-flavored vegetable shortening
1 1/4 c firmly packed brown sugar
2 Tb milk
1 Tb vanilla extract
1 egg
1 1/2 c all-purpose flour
1 ts salt
3/4 ts baking soda
1 c coarsely chopped walnuts
3/4 c milk chocolate chips
3/4 c white chocolate chips

Heat oven to 375F. Combine shortening, sugar, milk, and
vanilla. Beat in the egg.

Combine flour, salt, and baking soda. Beat into creamed
mixture at low speed until blended. Stir in the walnuts
and chocolate chips.

Drop 2 Tb of dough into a mound for each cookie. Place
about 3" apart on an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake for 8 to
9 min (cookies will appear moist). Cool 2 min on cookie
sheet. Do not overbake. Cookies continue to bake during
2 min of cooling time on baking sheet. Remove to rack.
