Not really a biggie. I've done the same more times than I care to remember.

The home versions (for the most part) have a round column that contains the
water tank while the smallest commercial models look very similar. But the
commercial guys have a square column (with more insulation) between the bottom
and the top.

The Bunn family is THE old-money family in this area. They used to own the
oldest bank in Illinois, etc. And George Bunn (who invented the Bunn-O-Matic)
was the black sheep ... a rounder and a drunk. He invented the coffee maker in
a quest to get a quicker cup of coffee to soothe his hangover(s). I went to
high-school with one of George's nephews (Jacob "Skip" Bunn) who used to tell
some dandy stories about Uncle George.

Anyway, George had the last laugh (and his heirs) since the other side of the
family has sold the bank (currently owned by Chase) and even the name "Marine
Bank" to others and went mostly to coupon clipping and spending their capital.
And to be honest the current version of Marine Bank is a much nicer,
less-pretentious place to do business.

DS> Have you ever looked under the hood of a high-cap commercial
DS> Bunn-O-Matic? The tank has a standard electric hot water heater
DS> element, so if it ever goes it's easy to swap out. In fact,
DS> just about everything in them is easy to swap out except for the

DS> size and had to be ordered from Bunn.)

Yes, I have. We used to have a 4 hot plate commercial Pour-O-Matic (no water
line connection) which needed cleaned up and a hot plate element replaced when
we were given it from the landlord of a defunct restaurant.

So, I took that bad boy apart and found what I needed and went to the Bunn
plant to buy the exact part. And ran into a guy I knew the guy on the parts
counter. He told me to bring the unit in and that they would refurb it for the
cost of parts. Yikes! When I got it back a couple of days later it cost me the
price of a new hot plate. But, it looked like the only thing left of what I
brought in was the name plate. I don't know what they did for sure, but, I've
cleaned up things like that and I never managed to get them looking brand-new -
especially the hot plates for the pot warmers.

Someone else told me that the repair department keeps a backlog of each model
and just puts yours at the end of the queue, giving you an identical model that
is already done. I don't know that that is what happened. But, if true it would
explain a lot - both about my particular machine and Bunn-O-Matic's
rephewtation.

DS> I'd still be using our Bunn if Maryanne and I hadn't rediscovered
DS> how delicious perked coffee is. (None of my percolators were made
DS> later than 1967 or so, speaking of old appliances in good repair.)

I like my small Mr. Coffee style pot. It make me three cups of coffee (the
model says 5 cups - but, I use bigger cups than they use to measure their
output) and has it ready when I crawl out of the shucks in the morning. And the
warmer plate shuts off on its own should I forget and leave the pot on there
without finishing it off and turning off the plate.
