He used my Calphalon a couple of times.  I couldn't see any visible harm
but didn't want him to keep up the practice.

It isn't a very nice smell; my folks had an electric popper that was old
when I was young.  It never failed to burn some of the corn.

So, do you still have & use that pot?  I think we all get those stubborn
streaks every now and then where we're determined not to let the pot or
whatever get the best of us.

I'm fairly well cured of it in most areas.  Fabric and books are
probably the weak areas.  Steve still has a bad case of packratitis; his
worst areas are books and computer equipment.  He's still fighting the
disease but has made progress over the last couple of years.  We both
inherited the gene (and passed it on to our girls) but seem to have a
milder case than most of the others in the family, especially on my
side.  Twenty six years of army life sort of helps in that regard,
having to meet weight allowances with every move.

A lot of the world is, yes, but there are pockets where the idea of
community works as it should.

We're not looking forward to the switch either.  When we first got a DVD
player, I picked up movies we didn't have on VHS because we still had a
working VCR.  Two or 3 years into that, I started replacing VHS tapes
with DVD; there are only about a couple dozen commercial tapes that need
replacing now.  I'm pretty sure a couple of them aren't available as
DVDs, like the one put out by one of the German tv stations after the
Berlin wall fell.  Then, too, we've a bunch of taped off the tv stuff I
need to got thru and see if it's worth copying.  If not, I'll toss, if
so, I will record them (we've got a dual set up).  Now some of the
DVD releases also have the Blu-Ray version included, so we're sort of
beginning the transition.

We got woken up by a call from Steve's company commander about 3:15 am.
The tv went on, stayed on until about 11:30 pm.  I was glued to the set
the next few days.  I'd made some bagels the day before; Steve took a
bunch in to work for those that most likely had to skip breakfast to try
to get to work.  Traffic was backed up for miles/hours at the entrance
to military installations as every vehicle got the fine tooth comb going
over.
