Nectar of the gods. I'm on fluid restriction, which means
drinking at most the amount previously suggested as the
minimum. I've been pretty careful about this, only once in
these last couple weeks going over the limit, and my
transgression was rewarded by a worsening of the cough and
the inability to sleep. So. I had 4 oz of liquid with my
lunch, described below, and it was the nectar of the gods.
It was also plain water, right out of the tap. 

I was about to give lunch an amazingly bad review. It was
a Meal on Wheels, leftover from my friend Paul's aunt, who
refused to eat it. Meatballs, pasta, and vegetable mixture.
You nuke it a couple minutes, and yum. The vegetables were
Italian flat green beans, lima beans, zucchini, and
cauliflower, all boiled together without salt. As these are
among my least favorite foods, I mused on whether there was
a way of avoiding getting old. Of course there is. A couple
ounces of rotini had been done to glue and then frozen, so
that after reheating you got shrivelled pasta knives on the
outside and gum on the inside. Three 1-oz-plus things of
protein, kneaded until the texture of superballs, then
scooped into uniform things the size of superballs. Salt,
oregano, basil, some acrid grated cheese substance. The sauce
- cornstarch, MSG, a touch of red food coloring. I did some
heavy doctoring with cayenne and garlic powder, and the
result, though not strictly palatable, did make me not want
to eat any more for the rest of the day.

Other dining delights.

Kendall-Jackson Chardonnay 07 - they're making this more and
more to the lowest common denominator - still plenty of oak,
but somehow it doesn't work with the grapes they're using now,
which taste more like Thompson Seedless than Chardonnay. So
a cheap jug wine with some oak in it. Very strange.

Woodbridge Cabernet 07 - ditto - red ink. No substantial aroma
or (beyond the usual sourish berryishness) taste. Interestingly,
mixing the two improved both, making the facsimile of a reasonable
rose. Also: when mixed 50:50 with Coca-Cola Classic, this was
actually kind of okay, sweet-tart, with citrus and berry notes.

There was a carrot cake I was introduced to. Why do people put
so much soda in their cakes? Nasty, nasty, nasty.
