=====================
Hi Ruth,

-> one I made--with a matching sushi print tie.  I don't think the sushi
-> print would be acceptable tho.

 RH> Santa likes sushi, as far as I know. You can always paint your
 RH> fingernails red and let it go at that. Take it off afterward if you
 RH> can't stand nail polish.

Amended tonight to a burgundy/black tie for the guys with dark trousers
& white shirt. The ladies were told dark skirt (same), black or white
top (final decision next week) and pearls. I've got a strand (one of 3)
that my maternal grandmother wore at her wedding in 1924; a strand of
pink, cream & gray ones Steve gave me for our 30th anniversary and some
blue ones with crystals he gave me last year for Christmas to chose
from. Probably will go with the old ones.

-> I've also got a crazy necklace, a big
-> RH> honkin' thing, made of Christmas tree balls - those satin-covered
-> RH> things. They're little ones, but even so.

-> No, not for me. The vintage stuff sounds good. Probably just as well
-> we're not too close; I'd be raiding your stock, wspecially the gold
-> items.

 RH> Oddly enough, the gold stuff is what I have least of. My personal
 RH> collecting jones is mid century copper.

Gold goes well with my coloring--dark blonde, brown eyes. Copper,
maybe, don't really have any pieces except a link bracelet Steve gave me
35 years ago.

-> than English). My Spanish isn't fluent enough to discuss the finer
-> spicings of a house specialty, unfortunately---but it's more Spanish
-> than Steve knows. (G)

 RH> As in it doesn't take much? I can read a fair bit and understand
 RH> some, but I don't think I could string a grammatical sentence together
 RH> in it.

I can pull together bits & pieces to make a decent sentence or ask a
vital question or two. When we visited friends in Alabama this spring,
they took us to a Mexican restaurant that had opened while they lived in
HI. Bob wanted to ask the waiter how long the place had been open but
didn't know how so I just asked "?Quantos an~nos aqui?" which worked.

-> I made his day today--combination semi sweet and 60% cacao Ghiradelli
-> chips & black walnut chocolate chip cookies.

 RH> Oh nom,nom as the Icanhascheezeburger website would put it.

Every so often one of our friends in Savannah sends us some pictures
from that site--usually just the time I need a good laugh.

-> -> was an indicator, they're doing a brisk business. For their sake, I
-> -> hope they can keep it going.

-> RH> Me too, if they're any good. I love those hole in the wall places.

-> Same here, as evidenced by our favorite Korean place in HI. This
-> Chinese place is in a newish shopping plaza development. It has the
-> Lowe's grocery store, Ace Hardware, the Chinese place, saw a sign that a
-> tile shop is coming soon and basic stores built for several more shops.

 RH> It's good that stores are actually moving in. The mall in the middle

Found out that a pub type place and nicer Italian place are going in up
there soon. The latter is expected to open sometime in February, the
pub, a few months later.

 RH> of town here had For Rent signs in far more places than it should
 RH> have. Even a dollar store closed. I wasn't surprised by that one; it
 RH> was so busy
 RH> (cough) that I always wondered how it could make rent. Meanwhile a
 RH> new, much smaller one opened a few doors down.

We aren't getting out and about that much right now. Still haven't been
to the big malls in Raleigh, probably won't now until January at the
earliest. Stores we do go to don't seem that crowded but you look and
see that all the buggies are gone...............unless they've not been
rounded up in a timely manner. I wouldn't want to start any kind of
retail business right now unless I knew it could make a go of itself,
and that's not a gven, by any means.

-> RH> Good idea. I found smoked salmon spread in the green meat rack

-> That would work quite well. How is it on a bagel?

 RH> I didn't have a bagel to find out, but cream cheese and smoked salmon
 RH> is a classic bagel topping.

I know; that's why I asked.

-> Getting the system that's going/gone thru ost of the country? We're
-> headed for the 20s again tonight.

 RH> Definitely. We didn't break 35 today, as the high. We may get that
 RH> "warm" tomorrow.

We had a high in the low 40s today. Last night (this morning) we got
down to at least 24 (don't know for sure, that's what it was when Steve
checked about 7:30). Had a frozen cold water pipe in the kitchen but it
thawed with no problems. I was able to make orange juice with the hot
water side and it was still cold water.

Catch you later,
Ruth
