=====================
Hi Ruth,

-> sisters divided it up but mom is the only one with kids so we should get
-> it all eventually. Don't know how much will go to my brothers; I think
-> most all will go to me & my sisters.

 RH> In my case, there are only my sister and myself. That makes it easy.

Quite so. OTOH, I've got 2 (single) brothers and 2 sisters, one married,
the other with a common law husband. BUT (!) Steve and I have the only
girls among the grand kids and the only (so far) great grand kids to my
parents.

-> RH> I can imagine. Hawaiian formalwear would be.

-> Some are very formal (I've got one), others are more casual--if you
-> spill poi on them at a luau, no problem.

 RH> One gathers that was the idea.

Yes, also light and airy, very comfortable in pre air conditioning
times. A lot of places over there are getting AC now, and you see a lot
of older places with window units. Trade winds can't cool the island as
well as previous times now that it is so developed/paved over.

-> RH> My favorite skirt is also the favorite of a friend's three
 RH> year-old;
-> RH> it's bright screaming red velveteen with a big floral print. It
-> RH> started life as an early 70s maxi wrap skirt.

-> Not my style; most of my stuff is more solid, some prints but most of
-> them are summer tops. My clothes are more of the classic styles, but
-> with some ethnic touches here & there.

 RH> I generally wear plain clothing so that I can wear crazy jewelry, but
 RH> some nuttier stuff does creep in. I have one sweater from the 80s
 RH> that's bright green with Indian-style appliques in primary colors. A

India Indian or Native American Indian? I've got mostly plain sweaters
but sweatshirts with all kinds of graphics on them. Mostly earth
colored (blue, green, brown) stuff with a few flashes of red. If you
remember (or can find any references to) the old idea of dresssing
according to your "seasonal" palatte, I'm an autumn, no question. Steve
is a winter. He was at the seminary library a few months ago and found
a book in the discard, free for taking stack on dressing for your
seasonal colors so grabbed it.

 RH> lot of my other
 RH> stuff is navy, gray, black, and other solid colors.

I do very little grey, black or pure white (mostly slacks or skirts for
the first 2, an occaisional blouse for the 3rd).

-> A very useful one. I can also order a meal. I can do it in German too.
-> (G)

 RH> Now that's useful. :-)

Yes, rather than pointing to random items on a menu, I can order and
know what I will be getting.

-> RH> At least someone found a use for the old building instead of
 RH> turning
->  RH> it into a Wal-Mart parking lot.

-> Not enough room for a Wal-Mart in that location It's down town, too
-> many other buildings around it would have to come down for a W-M to go
-> up.  I don't think the town would let one go up anywhere near them;
-> there's one 25 miles away which is just fine as far as most of them are
-> concerned. But, the Chinese place is well liked by both the locals and
-> tourists.  Decent food too.

 RH> That last is the key to longevity, along with a good location.

Very true. Not all the locals appreciate that type of food but enough do
that it is doing quite well.

-> RH> the original design. One of the photo websites printed them up.

-> So we saw, and tried to figure out what the design is. If all goes
-> well, our mail out will hit the post office Tuesday.

 RH> A baby rattle. It got blurred in the printing process, I guess.

OK, I had a thought that it might be that.

-> RH> Me too. Finish one baby quilt, then finish the next one. Run up a
->  RH> bigger one for a friend who doesn't know it's coming.

-> Dress & pantaloons are done except for a bit of hand work. That should
-> take about an hour (give or take) tomorrow.

 RH> Mostly take. I didn't get any sewing done tonight, but did get a batch

It did take more time than I'd thought to do the hand work. Had to sew
on 3 snaps, 3 buttons and a bow. But, it's on its way to LV, NV as of
last night. Got 3 pairs of pants hemmed today, one with cuffs. One
more and I've got that all caught up, not that there isn't other sewing
to do yet.

 RH> of shortbread baked. There's one more to go. Five cups flour, 1 1/4
 RH> cups
 RH> sugar, 1 pound butter. Mix together with hands and chill. Roll out,
 RH> cut into shapes ( I use diamond knife-cuts) and bake at 300F for 25
 RH> minutes or thereabouts.

Easy & sounds good. Wonder how they would work in whole wheat.
Yesterday, to save my time, I tossed a mix of whole wheat, oat, rye and
mesquite flours into the bread machine. Didn't come out too bad looking
& smelled good; we'll probably slice it tomorrow.

->  RH> It's snowing outside as we speak - probably 10 inches when it's
 RH> done.

-> We had about an inch Friday night before it warmed up just enough to
-> rain. Then we had flurries yesterday.

 RH> We got a whopping 4 to five inches, best guess. Some blizzard. At
 RH> least the first church service got cancelled, so the musicians got a
 RH> little extra sleep. The pastors didn't though, and they needed it the
 RH> most. One went to Boston to get his daughter at the airport at 00:30
 RH> .... got home at 4AM. She was in Bolivia on a mission trip. The other
 RH> one still has the back end of a nasty cold.

Rough time there. We had our choir's special music and Lord's Supper so
the sermon was not quite as long as it usually is. Still covered a lot
of ground tho.

Catch you later,
